Veteran Coiner joins staff at Tennessee
Charlie Coiner, a veteran college and NFL coach, has been named the special-teams and tight-ends coach at Tennessee.
Coiner most recently was a defensive and special-teams assistant at North Carolina in 2010. Before that he spent nine seasons with the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills.
Coiner started his career at Appalachian State in 1983 and also has coached at Minnesota, Austin Peay, Vanderbilt, Texas Southern, Louisville, Chattanooga and LSU.
Spurrier fires defensive assistant
Coach Steve Spurrier of South Carolina has fired safeties coach Jeep Hunter, saying in a statement Friday that he made the move because he thought the team needed a more experienced coach for its defensive backs.
Hunter just finished his third season with the Gamecocks.
Pitt hires Engram to coach receivers
Paul Chryst, the new head coach at Pittsburgh, added longtime NFL wide receiver Bobby Engram to his staff Friday as the receivers coach.
Engram, 39, played in the NFL from 1996 through 2009 with the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs and finished with 650 catches for 7,751 yards and 35 touchdowns. He spent this season as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers.
Insight Bowl losing title sponsor
The Insight Bowl in Arizona is losing its title sponsor and organizers are seeking a replacement for this year's game.
Tempe-based Insight Enterprises Inc. has sponsored the bowl game since 1997 but has allowed its sponsorship contract to expire. The annual game pits the third-place team from the Big 12 against the third- or fourth-place team from the Big Ten Conference.
