North Surry wrestlers fare well in Midwest 2-A Regional

North Surry had three wrestlers and Logan Younger win their weight classes in the NCHSAA Class Midwest 2-A Regional wrestling tournament Saturday at Monroe Piedmont.

North's Austin McMillian won at 113 pounds with a pin over Winston Lee of North Stanly. Austin Collins won at 145 after a 6-2 decision against Wilkes Central's Tyler Ward. Younger won at 182 with a 14-7 decision against Lexington's Kabron Horton. Austin Riggs of North Surry lost in the championship to Surry Central's Bryant White after a 15-11 decision.

Michael Elliott of Ashe County (132), Nick Kiter of Forbush (138), Aaron Reeves of Thomasville (152), Wes Brown (220) of Surry Central and Josh White (285) of East Davidson were other area wrestlers won titles.

All championship finalists and consolation finalists qualified for next week's state championships in Greensboro.

Midwest 3-A: Ledford had two wrestlers, Shabaz Butt and Josh Vivod, get runner-up finishes at Ledford on Saturday.

Butt (138 pounds) was defeated by Matt Millaway of Northeast Guilford, and Vivod (220) was defeated by Jacob McCann, also of Northeast Guilford.

Austin Deberry (126) of Ledford won the consolation final over Northeast Guilford's Patrick Brown.Tyler Hinch (120) of Ledford lost to Matthew Newman of Mount Pleasant in the consolation final.

All championship finalists and consolation finalists qualified for next week's state championships in Greensboro.

MidEast 2-A: High Point Andrews had four wrestlers — Jacob McNeil, Quan Le, Tyler Miles and Joseph Evans — win championship matches at the regional at Durham School of the Arts.

Raymord Martin (195 pounds) of Carver lost in the championship after being pinned by Cameron King of Trinity.

Khiry Waden (145) of Andrews won his consolation final.

Ribyan McClain (132) of Carver lost in the consolation final with Curtis Seay of Wheatmore after being disqualified. Jerry Brown (220) of Andrews also lost in a consolation final.
