Reagan's Craig Engels stayed hot Saturday night, winning the 1,000- and 1,600-meter races in the NCHSAA 4-A indoor track and field championships at the Eddie Smith Arena.
Engels, a winner last weekend in the boys mile at the New Balance Boston Grand Prix, repeated as the 1,000-meter champion (2:29.60), won the 1,600 in 4:19.46 and also was named the most-valuable performer in boys events.
Other area boys winning individual titles were Jermaine Lewis of West Forsyth in the 55 meters (6.45) and Austin Vegas of East Forsyth in the pole vault for the second straight year (15-0).
Also, the Mount Tabor team of Macon Gambill, Andrew Krivsky, George Oliver and Josh Copus won the boys 4x800 (8:05.86), and Oliver took second in the 3,200 (9:40.82).
In girls events, Sydney White of East Forsyth repeated as pole-vault champion (12-0), Darby Middlebrook of Watauga won the 1,600 (5:01.72), Anna McBride of Davie won the 3,200 (11:04.51) and Shemiah Brooks of Southwest Guilford won the triple jump (39-7).
Two girls relay teams had second-place finishes in relays — Watauga's Julia Roberts, Hailey Middlebrook, Darby Middlebrook and Madison Harman in the 4x800 and Parkland's Myshale Springer, Erin Morrison, Ebony Williams and Brianna Mitchell in the 4x400.
Southeast Guilford and Knightdale tied for the boys title with 46 points each, with Knightdale won the 4x400 to even it. Raleigh Wakefield won the girls title.
In the 3-A/2-A/1-A meet, Makayla Roten of West Wilkes won the girls high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 6 inches, and James Drummond of Lexington led area boys with second-place finishes in the 55- and 300-meter dashes.
Meet MVP Francesca Evans led the Burlington Cummings girls to their fifth consecutive title by winning the triple jump and 55 meter hurdles, finishing second in the 500 and running a leg on the fourth-place 4x100 relay team.
Also, Sage Proffitt of North Buncombe set the classification record in the girls pole vault (12-0), and Granville Central's Briana Heath set the record in the 300 (39.81 seconds).
Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons won the boys title with 42 points, and Isaiah Moore of Burlington Cummings was the boys MVP.
