North Carolina will be without P.J. Hairston, a shooting guard from Greensboro, when it plays Virginia at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Center.
Hairston, a 6-foot-5 freshman, has a sore left foot and will not practice Friday, according to school athletics officials. He is wearing a protective boot to promote healing.
Hairston has played in all 24 UNC games, is averaging 6.6 points and is No. 3 on the team with 30 3-point baskets. He played 10 minutes Wednesday in the 85-84 loss to Duke and did not score.
UNC is already missing guard Dexter Strickland, who is out for the rest of the season after injuring a knee at Virginia Tech on Jan. 19, and Leslie McDonald, a guard who is redshirting after injuring a knee in summer play. Strickland had reconstructive surgery Thursday.
UNC will enter today's game with records of 20-4 overall and 7-2 in the ACC. Virginia is 19-4 and 6-3.
