Reagan girls shine at swimming regional

Caroline Neil of Reagan won two individual races and a relay, Alexandra Marshall of Reagan won another individual girls race and a relay, and Daniel Le of Northwest Guilford was the lone area boys winner Saturday at the NCHSAA Class 4-A Central Regional.

Neil won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.25, defeating Fayetteville Sanford's London Schumacher (2:10.99).

Neil also won the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing 1:04.93, defeating Davie County's Palmer Benson (1:08.51). Susannah Thorne of Reagan was third (1:08.91).

Neil was also on the second leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which finished in 1:52.21. The other swimmers on the relay were Erin Ramsey, Marshall and Maria Seward. Greensboro Grimsley finished second (1:55.30)

Le won the 100-yard breaststroke at 55.99, defeating Southern Pines Pinecrest's Kurt Wohlrab (57.62).

East Chapel Hill won both the boys and girls team titles. The boys had 351.5 points, defeating Grimsley (295.5). Reynolds (166.5) finished third, Reagan (153) was fourth, East Forsyth (139) was sixth and Northwest Guilford (118) was seventh.

East Chapel Hill's girls had 290 points, defeating Grimsley (274). Reagan (247) was third, Northwest Guilford (140) finished tied for fifth with Durham Jordan, and Davie County (140) was seventh.

The top eight individuals in each race qualified for next Saturday's state championship at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.

 

NCHSAA 3-A East Regional: Gage Setzer of Ledford was the only area individual winner at Saturday's regional in Goldsboro, winning the 100-yard butterfly.

Setzer won with a time of 56.25. Setzer also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.42).

Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons won the boys team title. North Forsyth was third and Ledford was eighth.

Chapel Hill won the girls title, Ledford was eighth and North Forsyth was 21st.

The top 12 individuals in each race qualified for Thursday's Class 3-A state championship at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
