Reagan takes regional golf title by a shot

Reagan defeated Charlotte Ardrey Kell by one stroke Tuesday in the NCHSAA Class 4-A Western Regional at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte.

Reagan finished at 246, one ahead of Ardrey Kell and 10 ahead of third-place Alexander Central.

Allyson Markiewicz of Ardrey Kell shot a 76 and defeated Reagan's Victoria Allred on the first playoff hole. Hannah Craver of Reagan (78) was third.

The state championship will be next week at Pinehurst No. 6.

Volleyball

Susan Babcock had nine kills and nine blocks, and Danni Green had 20 assists to help Reagan defeat visiting Ragsdale 25-13, 25-20, 25-11 Tuesday night in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 4-A playoffs.

In Thursday's third round, Reagan (21-7) will host Charlotte Providence (24-2), which defeated Glenn 3-0 on Tuesday.

In another 4-A game, Southern Alamance defeated Mount Tabor 16-14 in the fifth game to win 3-2. Southern lost the first game 25-13, but came back to win the second 25-23. Mount Tabor won the third game 25-18, but Southern won the fourth 25-21.

Southern Alamance (21-3) will host Northwest Guilford (23-8), which defeated Charlotte Ardrey Kell 3-2, in Thursday's third round.

In a Class 2-A game, Kristina Rumplasch had nine kills and Morgan Bunker had eight to help North Surry cruise past Starmount 25-22, 25-17, 25-18 in the second round.

North Surry (28-2) will play at Trinity Wheatmore on Thursday.

In a Class 1-A game in Sparta, East Surry defeated Alleghany 25-22, 25-21, 7-25, 25-20 with the help of nine kills by Tanner Murray.

On Thursday, East Surry (19-7) will travel to play North Stokes (19-6), which defeated West Wilkes 3-0

In an NCISAA 3-A game, Forsyth Country Day defeated Covenant Day 26-24, 25-12, 25-19 in Tuesday's first round.

FCD (13-6) will play Southlake Christian (25-0) in Friday's quarterfinals at Cary Academy.

Tennis

No. 2 Jessica Davis was the only singles player to win for West Forsyth as it fell to Charlotte Providence 5-1 in Tuesday's second round of the NCHSAA Class 4-A tournament in Clemmons.

Davis defeated Elizabeth Matulis 7-6 (6), 6-1.

Katie Porter, the No. 1 seed for Providence, defeated Kindal Schmitt 6-1, 6-3.

It was West Forsyth's first loss of the year after entering the match 11-0.

In a Class 1-A match, East Wilkes won five of the six singles matches to defeat Lake Norman Charter 5-1 Tuesday in Huntersville.

East Wilkes (16-3) will play at East Montgomery in next week's third round.

In an NCISAA Class 2-A match, High Point Westchester rolled past O'Neal 9-0.

High Point Westchester swept The O'Neal School 9-0 in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 2-A tennis state playoffs. Top-seeded Katie Rice won her match without losing a game. High Point Westchester will play in Friday's semifinals.
