Mount Airy swept singles and doubles titles Saturday at the West 1-A Tennis Regional at Elkin.
Jordan Jackson won the singles title, and the team of Davi Barbour and Haley Thomas won the doubles title. Jackson defeated Jessica Rumple of East Wilkes 6-0, 6-1 in the championship. Barbour and Thomas beat teammates Elizabeth Dinkins and Jade Hughes 6-4, 6-3 to win the doubles title.
All semifinalists qualified for next week's Class 1-A and 4-a state championships.
In the Midwest 4-A Regional at Greensboro Grimsley, Hannah Templeton of Greensboro Page won the singles title, and Grimsley's Clare Cox and Roxanne Henshall won the doubles title.
Templeton defeated Astrid Pascua of Greensboro Grimsley 6-0, 6-1 in the final. Pascua beat Christina Woodard of Reynolds 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals, and Templeton edged Reagan's Montse Mesalles 6-2, 6-3.
In the 4-A doubles, Cox and Henshall defeated Jessica Davis and Kindell Schmitt of West Forsyth 6-0, 6-4 in the championship.
Davis and Shmitt defeated Grimsley's Carolina Chao and Adair Clark 6-4, 6-2 to reach the final. Cox and Henshall beat Davie County's Allie Billings and Jennifer Webster 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Volleyball
Reagan, Mount Tabor, Glenn, North Surry and Alleghany rolled to easy victories in Saturday's first round of the NCHSAA tournament.
In Class 4-A, Reagan swept visiting Charlotte Myers Park 3-0, and Mount Tabor outlasted visiting Matthews Butler 3-1.
Glenn defeated visiting Greensboro Page 3-1. Hannah Forbes of Glenn had 10 kills and six digs, and Abbi Stacherski had six kills and 11 digs.
Reagan (20-7) will play at home against Ragsdale in Tuesday's second round. Mount Tabor (14-10) will play at Southern Alamance, which defeated East Forsyth 3-1. Glenn (20-4) will play at Charlotte Providence, which beat North Davidson, on Tuesday.
North Surry defeated Valdese Draughn 3-0 in the Class 2-A playoffs in Toast. Morgan Bunker had 11 kills, and Molly Martin had 10. North Surry (27-2) will play host to Starmount (27-3), which shut out West Stokes 3-0, on Tuesday night.
Alleghany defeated Bishop McGuinness 3-0 in the first round of the Class 1-A playoffs in Sparta. Alleghany (19-7) will play visiting East Surry, which blanked East Wilkes 3-0, in Tuesday's second round.
