Nearly 350 runners took part in the ninth annual Ardmore 5K last Saturday and raised about $10,000 for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. Race officials also gave the food bank perishable goods that were donated on race day.
Justin Pfruender, 31, was the men's winner in 16:43, followed by Ryan Aubuchon, 27, in 17:20 and Michael Wlodarskiin in 17:47.
Sarah Poulin, 18, was the women's winner in 20:12, followed by Ellen Dobbin, 24, in 20:32 and Avery Goho, 16, in 20:47.
Chrysson fares well in Chicago Marathon
Jimmy Chrysson of Winston-Salem ran a personal-best 3:11:38 in the Chicago Marathon to finish eighth, out of 946 runners, in the 55-59 age division.
Chrysson, 55, had a time of 1:32.17 at the halfway point.
Locals compete in Charlotte
Several local runners placed in their age groups Saturday in the Lung Strong 15K in Charlotte.
John Anderson finished first in the 50-54 division with a time of 59:47, and James Banner was second in the 35-39 division in 57:33.
Also, Tim Doran was the Grand Masters winner in 54:53 and he finished 11th overall. Doran, 51, also set an age-group state record for 15 kilometers.
The race drew more than 500 runners.

- The Turkey Strut 5K, featuring a USATF certified course, and a 1-mile fun run will be Nov. 24, Thanksgiving Day, in Winston-Salem. The race will start at Reynolds High School and end at the old Fleet Feet store on Reynolda Road. Information: www.setupevents.com.
- The second annual Athena's Run for GYN Cancers will be Oct. 22 at Tanglewood Park at 8 a.m. A 1-mile survivor's walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Forsyth Medical Center Foundation's Gynecologic Cancer Fund.
