The Ardmore 5-K — one of the more popular 5-K races around — will be run Saturday starting at 9 a.m. near Redeemer Church on Miller Street.
There will also be a 1-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., with both races benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank. Runners who bring three canned goods for the food bank will be entered into a post-race raffle.

Locals fare well in Wineglass Marathon
Molly Nunn of Winston-Salem finished ninth overall at the Wineglass Marathon in Corning, N.Y., and was the top female finisher in a time of 2:48.20.
Other local runners who finished were Chris Zona, 34, in 3:28.36 (he was 20th in his age group) and Julie Hurd, 33, in 4:33.54.
More than 600 compete in Salem Lake races
The 22nd Annual Salem Lake 30-K was held last month with Winston-Salem’s Joe Lanser, 22, winning the men’s portion of the race. Caleb Masland of Vilas was second, and Tim Pierce of Raleigh was third.
Winning the women’s portion was Carolyn Maye, 23, of Waxhaw. Winston-Salem’s Loring Crowley, 28, was second, and High Point’s Viviana Dinan, 31, was third. Times for the winners were unavailable because of confusion with the layout of the course.
There were more than 330 runners in the race.
Winston-Salem’s Justin Pfruender, 31, won the men’s seven-mile race in 38:43, with Winston-Salem’s Donald Blackmon, 54, next in 44:15 and Winston-Salem’s Joseph Willis, 46, third in 44:55.
Lexington’s Jennifer Forrest, 39, was the top female finisher in 49:42 followed by Lexington’s Amy Mercer, 45, in 50:01 and 18-year-old Sarah Poulin of Ashland, Maine (50:14).
More than 300 ran in the seven-mile race.
Area man second at Camp Lejeune
Tim Doran, 51, of Winston-Salem finished second in the Marine Corps Half Marathon in Camp Lejeune with a time of 1:18:45.
He also won his age group (50-54) and set the state record for his age group, breaking the old record by nearly two minutes.
Plenty of races coming this fall
The 2nd Annual Athena’s Run for GYN Cancers will be Oct. 22 at Tanglewood Park at 8 a.m. with a 1-mile survivor’s walk scheduled for 9 a.m. Proceeds will go toward the Forsyth Medical Center Foundation's Gynecologic Cancer Fund.
