Novak Djokovic defeated Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (4), 6-2 on Sunday to win the Serbia Open for his fifth title and 27th straight victory this season.
Djokovic, the Australian Open champion, was not always at his best in a match often played in rain and had six double faults.
Madrid Open: Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki beat Ayumi Morita 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round, and Maria Sharapova rallied to defeat Arantxa Rus 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Estoril Open: Juan Martin del Potro beat Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-2 in the final in Oeiras, Portugal.
BMW Open: Nikolay Davydenko beat Florian Mayer in the final, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Bluefield State 5, WSSU men 0: Bluefield State swept the doubles and won two singles matches in straight sets to defeat Winston-Salem State in Raleigh in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament.
Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter had the best showing for WSSU in doubles, winning five games but losing 8-5. Bluefield State used 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to close out the match, handing WSSU (17-13) a second consecutive loss for just the second time since February.
Indiana (Pa.) 5, WSSU women 0: Winston-Salem State (27-2) ended one of its best seasons in school history with a loss to Indiana (Pa.) in Slippery Rock, Pa., in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament. The Crimson Hawks improved to 20-6.
