Kevin Manns, an award-winning sports-information director, has been hired at Winston-Salem State after a long tenure at Southern University.
Manns, who is from West Virginia, went to Guilford College where he played football and graduated in 1990. He was the sports-information director at WSSU from 1993 to 1996. He then spent four years at Alabama State before spending the next 11 years at Southern University.
"He's going to take us to the next level because he's very experienced at what he does," said Bill Hayes, the athletics director at WSSU. "He did some fantastic work at Southern."
Manns, who will be an assistant athletics director in charge of media relations, has been named the SWAC sports-information director of the year two of the last three years.
Hayes hopes to improve on radio coverage for WSSU's major sports, and says that Manns, 43, is very experienced in that area.
"They even had some of their baseball games on local television there at Southern," Hayes said.
For the last three seasons the Rams' football and basketball games have not been on local radio.
"We need to get more exposure through the various media outlets," Hayes said.
