In the Boxtorow polls, WSSU had 16 of 19 first-place votes to finish ahead of Norfolk State.

Bud Noel, a redshirt freshman cornerback at Wake Forest, was named to a freshman All-America team for the second time Monday when he was selected by Rivals.com. He also made the CBS Sports.com team.

Noel is tied for the nation lead in passes defended with 20 and has 19 pass breakups and one interception. He finished the regular season with 59 tackles.

Auburn juggling TB rotation

Coach Gene Chizik said that Auburn is turning to junior Onterio McCalebb, freshman Tre Mason — and perhaps a surprise or two — at tailback after the suspension of starter Mike Dyer.

Dyer was first-team All-SEC after rushing for 1,242 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns but was suspended indefinitely Sunday for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Chizik would not provide details of the suspension but said Dyer can return next season if he fulfills certain obligations.

Mountain West to request BCS bid

The Mountain West Conference will ask for an automatic bid to the Bowl Championship Series for the 2012 and 2013 seasons after its board of directors approved making the request.

The BCS rules allow a league without automatic qualifying status to request an exemption for the next two seasons if its teams met certain performance standards for the previous four seasons. The MWC met those standards, with Utah landing an automatic BCS bid in 2008 and TCU receiving bids in 2009 and '10. The MWC also was aided by the play of Boise State and TCU this season.

Tuberville shakes up coaching staff

Coach Tommy Tuberville of Texas Tech fired offensive line coach Matt Moore and defensive backs coach Otis Mounds and will reassign defensive line coach Sam McElroy to another job, moves made after the program's first losing season in 19 years.

Tech has hired Terry Price and John Lovett to help with the defense. Price spent the past three seasons as the defensive line coach at Mississippi, and Lovett is a former defensive coordinator at Miami.

Miami's Miller headed to NFL

Running back Lamar Miller is giving up his final two seasons of eligibility at Miami and entering the NFL draft, school officials announced.

Miller ran for 1,272 yards this season, becoming the first Miami back to top the 1,000-yard mark since 2002. He is the third Miami underclassman to announce he's leaving early, joining wide receiver Tommy Streeter and defensive lineman Marcus Forston.
