Appalachian State will play Harvard in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holmes Center.
Coach Buzz Peterson of ASU learned the opponent late last night and said he has research to do.
"Tommy Amaker is their coach, that's about all I know right now," Peterson said. "We're 103 in RPI and they're 101, so it should be interesting."
Harvard (21-7) set a school record for wins this season and is making its first trip to a postseason tournament since 1945-46. Amaker, a former Duke star, is in his third season as coach of the Crimson. ASU is 22-11.
Western Carolina is also in the 16-team CIT field and will play a first-round game at Marshall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Western (22-11) has its most wins in a season since becoming a Division I program. Marshall (23-9) is in a postseason tournament for the first time since playing in the NIT in 1988.
The CIT began last season and is oriented toward teams from "mid-major" conferences that don't make the NCAA field. Quarterfinal games will be March 22, semifinals are scheduled March 24-25, and the championship game will be March 30. All games will be on campus sites.
