Deadline for Forsyth Invitational golf on Friday

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The deadline for entering the 63rd Forsyth Invitational is Friday at 5 p.m.

This year's tournament, a three-day stroke play format, will be held Aug. 6-8 at Reynolds Park, Tanglewood Park's Championship Course and Winston Lake.

Dick Butler, the tournament director, said that entries for the tournament are coming in at a steady pace. He said that 83 golfers had registered as of yesterday.

"Considering it's been 90-plus degrees for so long it's going to affect the amount of people playing," Butler said. "But we're happy with the way registration is going."

Of the 83 who have registered, 38 of them have a 5 handicap or better, according to Butler.

Uly Grisette, the two-time defending champion, has yet to sign up but Butler said he expects Grisette to play.

"On paper this is shaping up to be an outstanding field," Butler said. "There are a lot of guys that can win this thing."

Other former champions who have registered are Arlis Pike and Chris Logan -- who are both three-time champions-- Eric Lawhon and Richard Giles.

Butler said that Mike Rowland, the Forsyth Senior champion, and Eric Mitchell, the Forsyth Junior champion, are also in the field.

"Christian Hawley is in the field and he just graduated from Glenn and he's going to N.C. State to play golf," Butler said.

Looking at the advance forecast Butler said that it looks as if temperatures will be in the mid 90s that weekend.

"It's been hot before in this tournament so the players will just have to make sure to stay hydrated," Butler said.

The tournament is open to any Forsyth County resident over the age of 18.

Entry forms are available at area golf courses and at the city's recreation department. For more information call Butler at 734-1212, or go to www.weplay.ws to download an application.
