Ed Davis' playing status for North Carolina's game against Wake Forest tonight will most likely be a game-time decision.
Coach Roy Williams said that Davis was listed as "limited at best" for a late-afternoon practice yesterday. Davis, a 6-10 center, sprained the ankle twice Saturday in the second half of a 73-71 loss to Georgia Tech.
Davis had additional treatment from trainers before yesterday's practice, but Williams said he had no idea if Davis would be able to start or play. With tipoff set for 7 p.m., UNC will not have a pregame shoot-around that might let Williams reassess Davis.
Williams said that players recover differently when listed as "limited at best" the day before games.
"The day before Virginia Tech, Marcus (Ginyard) was limited but looked great and jumped right in and felt good and was able to go," Williams said. "The game at Charleston, Will Graves and Marcus were both limited, and neither one played. I'd like to give you a better answer, but I don't know."
Point guard Larry Drew was expected to practice yesterday. He hyperextended his right knee against Tech.
Williams said that if Davis is limited to play or can't play, the 6-6 Graves will most likely move from small forward to power forward. Davis is UNC's leading rebounder (9.8 rpg) and No. 2 scorer (14.7 ppg).
"I'm always ready to step in," Graves said. "I do (play power forward) some in practice. I'm very observant. I'm always paying attention...."
"It might be a little -- I wouldn't say uncomfortable -- awkward for a couple of plays. But I can just about play any position by paying attention to what's going on."
