l Brothers Kenny and Robby Swab of Kernersville are putting together solid baseball seasons.
Kenny Swab (East Forsyth '07), a junior, was drafted in the 48th round of the major-league draft by the Cincinnati Reds last June out of Young Harris Junior College (Ga.). He chose not to turn pro and instead transferred to Virginia, where he catches and plays first base for the second-ranked Cavaliers. He is batting .344 (22 for 64) with three home runs and 12 RBIs.
Swab's biggest day at the plate came against Towson on March 30. Batting cleanup, he went 3 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and a key two-RBI single in an 8-5 comeback victory.
Robby Swab (East Forsyth '08) is following in his brother's footsteps, for now. Also a catcher, Robby is a redshirt freshman at Young Harris. He is hitting .340 (16 for 47) for the Mountain Lions.
l Sophomore pitcher Ryan Dull (East Forsyth '08) had one of the best games of his college career at UNC Asheville last Friday, pitching a complete-game six-hitter in a 2-1 Big South win over Presbyterian. Dull improved to 4-1 and has an ERA of 3.86.
l Stephen Andrews (Mount Tabor '07) hit a three-run homer in the first inning Monday to help Lenoir-Rhyne to a big early lead in a 16-7 win over Newberry. It was the 14th homer of the season for Andrews, who his hitting .348 (57 for 164) and has a team-high 17 doubles and a slugging percentage of .707.
l Catcher Brittany McKinney (West Forsyth '07) continues to hit well for North Carolina's softball team. On Saturday, she had two home runs in a 4-1 win over Boston College and helped the Tar Heels to a sweep of a three-game ACC series.
She is second on the team with eight homers and fourth in batting average at .288 (30 for 104).
l Pitcher Brooke Honeycutt (East Surry '06) is having a strong season for the Surry Community College softball team.
Honeycutt went seven shutout innings, allowed one hit and struck out 15 in a 3-0 win over Potomac State (W.Va.) on March 30. Three days later, in a 3-2 win over Florence-Darlington (S.C.) Tech, Honeycutt went seven innings, allowing only two earned runs. The next day, she had 11 strikeouts and picked up her third win of the week in a 7-3 victory over Southeastern Community College.
Honeycutt has an 8-5 record, a 1.74 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 84 innings.
l Freshman Jordan Fulton (West Forsyth '09) tied the Western Carolina softball record for stolen bases in a season Sunday with her ninth in a 17-3 loss to College of Charleston.
Fulton is also hot at the plate and is second on the team with a .339 batting average (39 for 115). In her past seven games, she has hit .391, with seven hits, nine runs scored and a double.
l Ryan Sullivan (Forsyth Country Day '07) shot a career-low 212 over three rounds to help UNC Wilmington win the River Landing Intercollegiate men's golf tournament April 2-3 in Wallace. Sullivan had rounds of 73, 67 and 72 on the par-72 course to finish sixth out of 79 golfers.
l Will Bowman (Forsyth Country Day '06) had a season-best seventh-place finish to help UNC Greensboro to seventh place at the UK Bluegrass Invitational men's golf tournament last weekend. Bowman shot a second-round 68 and then shot a 74 in the final round to finish at two-under par 211, five shots off the lead.
