NCHSAA tennis
Midwest 4-A Regional: Reynolds' Chloe Willetts defeated teammate Bia Signori 6-2, 6-3 yesterday at Greensboro Grimsley to win the girls regional championship. Willetts beat Grimsley's Carli Tuscano in one semifinal, and Signori beat Grimsley's Nikki Curnes in the other semi to set up the all-Demons final.
Tuscano and Majdou Lavoie won the doubles title. The semifinalists in both singles and doubles will play in this weekend's state championships at Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh.

Mideast 3-A Regional: Neena Wanko of Cameron Union Pines defeated Ledford's Tiffany Vanhpraseuth 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals, then defeated McMichael's Masey DeMoss 6-2, 6-3 in the final to win a regional singles title yesterday. Vanhpraseuth won the third-place match by default over injured Lauren Brooker of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons.
In doubles, Tori Helpingstine and Hannah Kimbrough of Chapel Hill defeated Caroline Kernodle and Helen Powell of Burlington Williams 6-1, 6-4 for the title.
NCHSAA golf
Class 4-A: Defending individual champion Allison Emrey of Charlotte Ardrey Kell fired a 2-under par 71 to take a 1-shot lead yesterday after the opening round of the Class 4-A girls championships at the West Course at Foxfire Golf and Country Club in Foxfire Village.
Emrey helped propel Ardrey Kell into the top spot in the team standings with a team total of 226, eight shots ahead of defending team champion Raleigh Athens Drive. Reagan and Greensboro Grimsley are tied for third at 252, 26 shots back.
Mount Tabor's Kristi Ingram (78, tied for 10th), was the top area golfer. Reagan's Hannah Craver (79, tied for 14th) and Reynolds' Erica Clinard (83, 23rd) are also in the top 25.
The final round is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. today.

Class 3-A/2-A/1-A: West Henderson's Kayla Scuipider took a 2-shot lead over the field after yesterday's opening day in the Class 1A/2A/3A girls championships at the Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines.
In the team standings, Salisbury shot a 250 and has an 8-shot margin over West Henderson.
Leslie Long of Forbush, who shot an 85, is the top area golfer. She is tied for 15th.
The final round is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. today.

Other NCHSAA
Team tennis: Reynolds (17-3) will face its toughest opponent of the season today, taking on unbeaten Grimsley (13-0) in Greensboro in the second round of the NCHSAA 4-A team tournament. Also alive in Class 4-A is Mount Tabor, 9-4 heading into a match at Greensboro Page (12-8).
In other second-round matches today, Ledford (11-0) will be at home against Chapel Hill (13-5) in Class 3-A, and Mount Airy (16-1) will be at home against Avery, and North Stokes (16-2) will play at Elkin (13-0) in Class 1-A.
Volleyball: Fourteen area teams, including Mount Tabor and North Surry, advanced through Saturday's first round of the volleyball playoffs and will play second-round matches today.
Mount Tabor, 22-3 and last year's Class 4-A runner-up, will be at home against Greensboro Page (16-7). North Surry (28-0) will be at home against North Henderson in Class 2-A. Second-round winners will advance to play again on Thursday/
NCISAA
Forsyth Country Day will play NCISAA quarterfinals today in soccer and field hockey, with the soccer team (17-6) home against High Point Wesleyan (15-7-4), and the field-hockey team (12-7) at Durham Academy (12-3) at 4 p.m. Also, FCD played North Raleigh Christian yesterday in the first round of team tennis, and the winner will play at Raleigh St. Mary's today.
In Class 2-A soccer, High Point Westchester (11-5-2) will play at top-seeded Raleigh St. David's (19-1-1).
