Prep Playoffs Roundup: Union Grove wins state soccer title

NCCSA 2-A soccer

Union Grove 4, Bible Baptist 1: Joseph Bailey had two goals and two assists yesterday as Union Grove defeated Bible Baptist in the championship game in Lexington.
Union Grove has won state championships five of the past six years, missing out in 2007.
Union Grove (17-1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on an assist from Bailey. Bailey added to the lead on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in the first half.
Bible Baptist trimmed the lead to 2-1 when Jordan Allen scored in the 65th minute. Bailey scored his second goal on an assist from Drew Aker in the 67th minute to make the score 3-1.

Mount Tabor 3, East Forsyth 0: Anna Logan had five aces last night as Mount Tabor rolled past visiting East Forsyth 25-6, 25-21, 25-19 in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs.

Charlotte Providence 3, Reagan 2: Visiting Charlotte Providence edged Reagan 18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs.

Charlotte Myers Park 3, West Forsyth 0: Charlotte Myers Park easily defeated visiting West Forsyth 25-20, 25-20, 25-15 last night in the first round of the Class 4-A tournament.

West Montgomery 3, Bishop McGuinness 1: West Montgomery won the last two games last night, defeating Bishop McGuinness 25-13, 21-25, 25-17, 26-24 in the first round of the Class 1-A tournament in Mount Gilead.
Erin Fitzgerald had seven kills, seven blocks and four digs for McGuinness (8-12).

Alleghany 3, Mount Airy 0: Alleghany swept Mount Airy 25-8, 25-10, 25-8 in the first round of the Class 1-A playoffs in Sparta yesterday .

North Surry 3, Valdese Draughn 0: Morgan Tucker had seven kills as North Surry cruised past Valdese Draughn 25-16, 25-19, 25-9 in the first round of the Class 2-A playoffs in Toast.

Watauga 3, Asheville Roberson 0: Watauga easily defeated Asheville Roberson 25-21, 25-10, 25-18 in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs in Boone.

NCCSA 3-A volleyball

Salem Baptist 3, Alamance Christian 2: Salem Baptist defeated Alamance Christian 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 15-13 in the third-place game in the NCCSA Class 3-A tournament at Wilmington Christian.

NCHSAA tennis regionals

West 4-A: Shannon Herndon of Watauga lost her third-place match to Jessica Perez of Charlotte Myers Park at Huntersville Hopewell yesterday.
Perez won 6-2, 6-3, but all four semifinalists qualified for next week's state tournament.
Herndon lost to Grace Baker of Myers Park 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals.
