The No. 15-ranked Virginia Tech women's soccer team broke a 1-1 tie with three goals early in the second half and held off Wake Forest's rally for a 4-3 win last night at Spry Stadium.

WFU fell to 12-3-1 and 4-2-1 in ACC play. Virginia Tech is 12-4-0 and 5-2-0.

With the game tied 1-1 in the 54th minute, Virginia Tech scored three goals in the next 5:38 to take a commanding 4-1 lead.

Marika Gray made it 2-1 with her sixth goal of the season. WFU's Amanda Barasha mishandled a ball sent into the 18-yard box, and Gray was there to take the ball and finish from 12 yards out into an open net to put the Hokies in front.

Kelly Conheeney added the third goal for Virginia Tech two minutes later. WFU tried to clear, but the ball went right to Conheeney. Her shot got inside the left post to make it 3-1.

Gray finished the Hokies' scoring with her second goal of the game, in the 59th minute. Conheeney played a long pass to Gray down the right side. Gray dribbled in and scored from 8 yards out to put the Hokies ahead 4-1.

WFU started its comeback in the 71st minute on Jill Hutchinson's team-leading 11th goal of the season. Bianca D'Agostino played a pass to Hutchinson, who dribbled in from the right and around the keeper. Hutchinson's shot from 6 yards out entered an open net to make it 4-2.

WFU cut the lead to one with a goal from Fountain in the 87th minute. A Wake Forest player tied to put a shot on goal, but her attempt was blocked. The ball went to Fountain, who found the right side of the net from 12 yards out to bring Wake Forest to 4-3.

Hutchinson's goal, her 11th of the season, also was the 33rd goal of her career. The goal brings her to one of tying the school record of 34, held by Sarah Kozey.

Allie Sadow and Fountain also scored goals for the Deacons.
