NFL Notebook: 'Skins promote punter from practice squad

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Redskins: Washington has signed punter Glenn Pakulak to the 53-man roster for its game against Carolina.

Pakulak was promoted from the practice squad yesterday and will handle the punting and holding duties in place of Hunter Smith today. Smith pulled a groin muscle in last week's win over Detroit.

The Redskins released veteran defensive end Renaldo Wynn to make room for Pakulak. Wynn had been inactive for all four games this season.

Seahawks: Seattle has signed offensive tackle Kyle Williams from the practice squad.

The move, announced yesterday, adds depth to a depleted position for today's game against Jacksonville. The team released defensive tackle Michael Bennett to make room on the active roster for Williams.

Williams was added last weekend before Seattle lost at Indianapolis. The team then put him back on the practice squad this week.

The Seahawks have to play this roster shell game for now because three starting linemen are out injured. But the team thinks Walter Jones, Rob Sims and Sean Locklear aren't injured severely enough to go on the injured-reserve list. That would end their seasons and clear roster space.

Colts: Bob Sanders traveled with the Indianapolis Colts to Tennessee and could play in Sunday night's game against the Titans. Sanders has been listed as doubtful this week. He has not played all season and did not practice until Wednesday. Cornerback Marlin Jackson (knee) did not travel, but left tackle Charlie Johnson (knee) also made the trip.

Jets: Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery is questionable for New York's game against the Miami Dolphins after missing practice for a second straight day. Cotchery didn't practice yesterday because of a hamstring injury. He has 23 catches for 356 yards and a touchdown.

Cornerback Lito Sheppard was limited yesterday and is listed as doubtful for the game at Miami on Monday night with a strained right quadriceps. Cornerback Donald Strickland (right ankle) is out and hasn't practiced since being injured against New England in Week 2.

Safety Kerry Rhodes (knee) and right tackle Damien Woody (right foot) are questionable. Rhodes was limited in practice, while Woody sat.

Kicker Jay Feely didn't practice, but his absence wasn't injury related.

Browns: Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and kicker Phil Dawson missed practice and are doubtful for today's game in Buffalo.

Jackson, the team's top tackler, has a hamstring injury that he sustained this week in practice. Dawson has been inactive for two games with a left calf injury and has not been seen around the training complex.

Billy Cundiff will likely make his third straight start for Dawson against the Bills.
