■ Senior Abby Miller (North Davidson '06) has helped Wake Forest's volleyball team bounce back strong from a season-opening 10-game losing streak. Miller, a defensive specialist, had 13 digs Saturday as Wake Forest beat Virginia 3-1 for its sixth consecutive win.

Miller leads the Deacons (6-10, 4-1 ACC) with 218 digs this season. Freshman Andrea Beck (Mount Tabor '09), has also made a strong contribution. She is second on the team with 46 blocks and is third with 124 kills.

■ Freshman Faith Robins (Glenn '09), an outsider hitter, is working her way into the rotation for Ohio's powerful volleyball team. Robins had seven kills and four blocks for the Bobcats in a 3-1 win over Buffalo on Saturday. Ohio, the six-time defending Mid American Conference champion, improved to 4-0 in the MAC and 12-4 overall.

Robins has 14 kills and 12 blocks on the season and leads the team with an attack percentage of .357.

■ Defensive lineman Isaiah "Puff" Thomas (Carver '03) is having a fine senior football season at Shaw. Thomas has 29 tackles, including 8½ for losses, for the Bears (5-1). He has also recovered two fumbles and forced another fumble.

Thomas had five tackles, including two for losses, in last week's 42-32 win over Saint Augustine's.

■ Brevard's Shaton Pratt (Parkland '06) carried seven times for 58 yards and a 4-yard touchdown in a 28-12 loss to Wingate on Saturday.

■ Methodist's Reggie Scales (Reagan '08) is second in rushing in the USA South Conference. Through four games, Scales has carried 59 times for 436 yards (7.4 ypc) and two touchdowns.

■ Freshman Julianna Prim (Starmount) broke three Pfeiffer records in Saturday afternoon's annual Black and Gold swim meet. In the 100 free, Prim eclipsed the old record of 53.97 set by Julie Busfield in 2001 with a time of 53.39. In the 100 fly, Prim broke the 15-year old record of 1:01.19 set by Rebecca Spera in 1994 by almost three seconds with a time of 58.50. The third and final record-breaker came in the 200 IM as Prim set the new mark at almost a second faster than Jaime Jones did back in 1999 with a time of 2:12.75.

■ Sophomore soccer defender Mary Kate Tucker (Reagan '08) of UNC Asheville made the all-tournament team in the Catamount Classic last month in Cullowhee.

Tucker has started all nine games for the Bulldogs this season.

■ Soccer player Matt Tuttle (Reynolds '06) had another big week for High Point. Tuttle had a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Sept. 30. Then, against UNC Asheville on Oct. 3, he kicked in the tying goal on a 20-yard free kick under the wall into the lower-right corner of the goal to help the Panthers rally for a 2-1 win.
