Games to watch
• Colts (9-0) at Ravens (5-4): The Ravens' defense this season has not been the Ravens' defense of old. But watching Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who leads the league in passing yards (2,872) and touchdown passes (20), go against Ravens safety Ed Reed is always worth some attention.
The Ravens entered the weekend tied for 12th in the league in sacks and will need their best pass pressure day to simply make Manning uncomfortable. Few teams get to Manning -- he's been sacked just eight times this season, the least among the league's starters -- but if he can hold the ball as long as he wishes he almost always wins.
If the Ravens, using running back Ray Rice, can keep the ball out of Manning's hands enough, even making their drives that end in a punt last at least eight or nine plays, to keep Manning the only place he can't hurt a defense -- and that's on the sideline.
The Colts defense is among the league leaders in turnover margin -- plus-7 -- because they benefit from opposing offenses pressing and taking chances to keep up with the Indianapolis offense.
• Chargers (6-3) at Broncos (6-3): The Broncos have tried to say this is just one of 16 games in the regular season and technically that may be true. However, if this team is intent on, or desires to, separate itself from the franchise's recent troubles, this is the game.
The Chargers are once again surging toward December while the Broncos are scuffling. San Diego has done what it wants when it wants to the Broncos for most of the past four seasons.
The Broncos have not held the Chargers to fewer than 23 points in any of the last seven meetings and San Diego has a 5-2 record in those games.
What can the Broncos possibly do with Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers? The Broncos' defense rattled Rivers some last month, sacking him five times, four times in the second half of the Denver victory.
And despite the fact running back LaDainian Tomlinson appears to be rounding into form, they'll need similar results in this one. Especially on third down, when Rivers has thrown six of his 16 touchdown passes but has also thrown four of his six interceptions.
• 49ers (4-5) at Green Bay (5-4): The fact that Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still starting games and sitting at ninth in the league in passing yards this season -- 2,444 -- continues to be a testament to his resolve. Not only will he always be the guy who followed Brett Favre, but he's been sacked a league-leading 41 times already this season.
That's 12 more times than any other starter in the league. Toss in the fact that he's thrown just five interceptions and he's pretty much put on a clinic of how to play under duress.
