»  Comments | Post a Comment

Elkin 26, North Duplin 0: Elkin's powerful rushing game proved too much for visiting North Duplin last night in an NCHSAA Class 1-A West second-round game.

The Buckin' Elks rushed for 471 yards and four touchdowns led by Grayson Kimery's 172 yards on 20 carries. Tre Hayes had 14 carries for 125 yards, Jermaine Hayes added 84 yards on three carries, and Aaron Rabin carried 10 times for 77 yards.

Elkin took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when Tre Hayes scored on a 1-yard run. Tre Hayes added his second touchdown in the second quarter on a 5-yard run, then ran in the 2-point conversion to give Elkin a 14-0 halftime lead.

Kimery extended the Elks' lead to 20-0 in the third quarter with a 24-yard touchdown run. Jermaine Hayes sealed the win in the fourth quarter, romping 71 yards for the game's final touchdown.

Elkin, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the third round where it will play at home against No. 3-seeded Robbinsville, a 46-7 winner last night over South Stanly. Last year, Elkin also played at home against Robbinsville in the third round and held on for a 21-20 win.

The Elks stayed in line for a possible game in the next round against top-seeded Mount Airy. Unbeaten Mount Airy is the defending 1-A champion, and Elkin has won four 1-A titles this decade under Coach Richard Grissom.
