Kayla Adams scored all 17 of her points in the second half to spark 12th-seeded North Forsyth to a 43-37 upset of fifth-seeded Glenn last night in the Mary Garber Holiday Classic at Carver.
In other first-round games, West Forsyth defeated East Forsyth 40-30, Forsyth Country Day defeated Reagan 54-33, and Parkland defeated Winston-Salem Prep 61-40.
In the North Forsyth win, Callie Yohn chipped in with 10 points.
Glenn led 15-10 after the first quarter, but it only scored two points in the second quarter and trailed 18-17 at halftime.
Deonna Young scored 17 points and Jessica Riffle added 10 for Glenn (0-1).
West Forsyth (1-0), the No. 7-seed, had 16 points from Tori Cook to lead it past No. 10 East Forsyth at Atkins.
Kristen Hicks led East (0-1) with nine points.
At Carver, Farrahn Wood scored 16 points to help eighth-seeded FCD defeat ninth-seeded 9 Reagan. Taylor Duggins added 14 points for FCD (4-0).
Alana Beroth led Reagan (0-1) with 17 points.
Victoria Davis scored 19 points to lead Parkland past Winston-Salem Prep at Atkins.
Alicia Penn added 14 points for Parkland (1-0), and Jessica Morgan had 12.
Cierra York led Winston-Salem Prep (0-2) with 30 points.
In Saturday's quarterfinals games at Atkins, fourth-seeded Starmount will play North Forsyth at 3 p.m., third-seeded Carver will play Parkland at 4:30, second-seeded Reynolds will play West Forsyth at 6 p.m., and top-seed Mount Tabor will play FCD at 7:30.
In consolation games also at Atkins on Saturday, Reagan will play Glenn at noon, and Winston-Salem Prep will play East Forsyth at 1:30.
