UNC Wilmington 1, UNC Charlotte 1 (UNCW 4-1 PKs): Visiting UNC Wilmington advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a victory over UNC Charlotte last night.
UNC Wilmington (14-2-5) will play Wake Forest on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
Daniel Roberts scored the lone goal in regulation for UNC Wilmington, and Adam Gross scored the lone goal for UNC Charlotte.
The Seahawks beat the 49ers on penalty kicks after 110 minutes of regulation and overtime.
Duke 3, Winthrop 2: Ryan McDaniel, Ryan Finley and Andrew Wenger each scored first-half goals, and Duke advanced to the second round with a win over visiting Winthrop.
Cameron Alksnis and Said Abdi each had goals for Winthrop.
Duke (13-6) will play at Michigan State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the second round.
Wake Forest women: The Wake Forest women, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years, will play at South Carolina today at 7 p.m.
The Deacons (15-5-2) posted shutouts in their first two games, defeating Kennesaw State 2-0 and West Virginia 3-0 at home last weekend. The Gamecocks (19-3-2) are in the midst of the best season in program history and are in the third round for the first time after victories over Davidson and Rutgers.
It will be the first meeting between the teams since 1999. Wake Forest leads the series 1-0-1.
