NFL Notebook: Childress to review offer from Vikings

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Vikings: Coach Brad Childress said he is reviewing an offer from the Vikings on a contract extension.

Childress spoke briefly to reporters after practice yesterday, but did not say an agreement has been reached. He said there was a document waiting on his desk that he intended to look over. His current deal runs through 2010.

Citing an unidentified source, ESPN.com reported that the extension would keep Childress in Minnesota through the 2013 season.

Childress was hired in 2006 by owner Zygi Wilf, and the Vikings have improved each year under his watch. They went 6-10 in 2006, 8-8 in 2007 and 10-6 with an NFC North title last season.

Redskins: Running back Clinton Portis will miss his second straight game as he recovers from a concussion. Coach Jim Zorn yesterday ruled Portis out for Sunday's game at Dallas.

Portis has not been able to practice since he was injured in a helmet-to-helmet hit against Atlanta.

Ladell Betts is set to start for Portis for the second consecutive week.

Bills: Buffalo signed quarterback Brian Brohm off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad.

Brohm, once considered a likely top draft pick during his standout career at Louisville, fell to the Packers in the second round of the 2008 draft. He was beaten out for the No. 2 quarterback spot by seventh-round pick Matt Flynn, and Brohm was inactive as the third quarterback for all 16 games in 2008. He ended up on the Packers' practice squad this season.

Jets: Running back-kick returner Leon Washington expects to fully recover from his broken right leg, and is "very optimistic" about working out with the team when it begins offseason programs in March.

Washington made his first public appearance at the team's facility yesterday since suffering a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula last month in a game at Oakland.

Rams: Defensive end C.J. Ah You has been lost for the season with a knee injury.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo said yesterday that Ah You will be placed on injured reserve -- the ninth Ram this season and the third defensive lineman.

Spagnuolo said that Ah You has a torn anterior cruciate ligament after being injured during Wednesday's practice. He will require surgery.

Saints: Reggie Bush has missed two practices this week to rest his left knee.

It's the same knee Bush had surgery on last December to repair cartilage. Bush is coming off one of his best games of the season in St. Louis, when he gained 98 yards and scored two TDs.
