Top 25 men

No. 3 Texas 73, Western Carolina 41: Damion James scored 18 points and Texas continued to break in its talented group of freshmen with a win over visiting Western Carolina last night.
James, a senior, also grabbed seven rebounds.
Gary Johnson, a junior forward who played just 14 minutes in Texas' season-opening win over UC-Irvine, added 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman point guard J'Covan Brown scored 10 points and had his first assists of the season.
Harouna Mutombo scored 10 points to lead the Catamounts (1-1).

No. 11 Butler 67, Northwestern 54: Shelvin Mack had 15 points, Gordon Hayward added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and visiting Butler showed off its depth with a victory over Northwestern last night.
Five players had nine points or better for the Bulldogs (2-0), who never trailed in beating Northwestern (1-1) for a second straight year. Mack also dished out eight assists.

State/area men

Florida State 80, Stetson 38: Deividas Dulkys led four Florida State players in double figures with 13 points in a rout of visiting Stetson last night.
The Seminoles (2-0) held the Hatters (1-2) to just three first-half field goals and used a balanced scoring attack to enter halftime with a 36-point lead. FSU held Stetson without a field goal for the final 11:37 of the first half.
Stetson finally ended its scoreless drought with Mark Lohuis' 3-pointer with 16:31 left in the game, but FSU led by as many as 49.

Florida 69, Georgia Southern 49: Kenny Boynton scored 22 points, Chandler Parsons added 15 points and 12 rebounds and Florida overcame a slow start to beat visiting Georgia Southern last night to open the Legends Classic.
Vernon Macklin chipped in 15 points and seven boards for the Gators (2-0), who also face Troy, No. 2 Michigan State and either Massachusetts or Syracuse in the tournament.

N.C. Central 85, N.C. Wesleyan 70: N.C. Central pulled away down the stretch to down N.C. Wesleyan last night in Durham.
Central's T.J. Granger led all scorers with a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds. Senior Trey Drake paced Wesleyan with a team-high 17 points and six assists, while Jarmel Arrington and Alex Murray joined him in double-figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Arrington also grabbed seven rebounds.

Top 25 women

No. 4 North Carolina 88, Coastal Carolina 49: Cetera DeGraffenreid scored 20 points and tied a career high with eight steals to help North Carolina defeat visiting Coastal Carolina last night.
She'la White added 16 points for the Tar Heels (2-0), who overcame a sluggish first half in which they trailed 20-19 with six minutes remaining. Chay Shegog scored 15 points and Laura Broomfield had 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for North Carolina.
Elizabeth Weaver scored 14 points to lead the Chanticleers (2-1), who shot 29 percent from the field.
The Tar Heels blew open the game with a 24-4 run in the first seven minutes of the second half. North Carolina had nine offensive rebounds in the first four minutes after getting three in the entire first half.

No. 7 LSU 61, No. 24 Middle Tennessee 40: Taylor Turnbow had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead LSU over visiting Middle Tennessee last night.
LaSondra Barrett added 10 points for LSU (2-0).
Forward Alysha Clark had 16 points and a game-high 20 rebounds for Middle Tennessee (1-1).

No. 12 Virginia 110, South Carolina Upstate 63: Chelsea Shine had a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead Virginia over visiting South Carolina Upstate last night.
Shine, a sophomore forward celebrating her 20th birthday, shot 10 for 13 from the field.
Virginia's Debbie Ryan coached her 1,000th game, improving to 702-298.

No. 15 Texas A&M 86, Rice 50: Danielle Adams scored 15 points in only 18 minutes and Texas A&M cruised past visiting Rice last night.
Adams, a junior-college transfer, has averaged 20 points in her first two games with A&M. Tanisha Smith added 14 points for the Aggies (2-0).

No. 19 Kansas 66, Iowa 55: Danielle McCray scored 20 points and visiting Kansas used a late 11-0 run to beat Iowa last night.
McCray missed nine of her first 10 shots and had only five points at the break. But McCray, a 5-11 senior, made several key baskets in the second half for the Jayhawks (2-0).

No. 22 Vanderbilt 90, Southern Illinois 64: Hannah Tuomi had 20 points and eight rebounds as visiting Vanderbilt beat Southern Illinois last night.
Jence Rhoads added 18 points and Merideth Marsh scored 10 for the Commodores (2-0).

No. 25 Mississippi State 81, Utah Valley 35: Alexis Rack scored 16 points to lead Mississippi State over visiting Utah Valley last night.
The Bulldogs (3-0) forced 33 turnovers and opened the game against the Wolverines (2-2) with a 32-3 run.

State/area women

Campbell 79, N.C. Central 63: Campbell, despite an N.C. Central burst early in the second half, won a nonconference game in Durham last night.
The win lifted Campbell to 2-1, while N.C. Central fell to 0-3.
The Eagles, facing a 44-20 deficit after the break, nearly erased the lead, with a 35-13 run out of the gate to bring the game to 57-55. Central's Joanna Miller scored 15 of the points.
, including nine from behind the arc before two Lauren Yesh jumpers ended the Eagles run.
