Two baseball players from Glenn, Parks Jordan and Justin Hunt, have signed Division I scholarships, according to their future college coaches.
Jordan, a 6-1, 185-pound infielder, has signed with North Carolina, and Hunt, a 6-3, 220-pound right handed pitcher, has signed with UNC Asheville.
Jordan, who has a cumulative .380 batting average over two varsity seasons, is a "throwback" player, according to Coach John Fowler of Glenn.
"He just does a little bit of everything well," said Fowler, who plays Jordan at shortstop. "It's not just about hitting with him. He is one of the best base-runners I have had in this program. And he has won two or three games for us on base-running. He's really smart on the base paths, and he can handle the bat, hits it well the other way and he can hit the home run."
Fowler said that he thinks UNC will move Jordan to a corner infield position, or perhaps to the outfield because of his speed.
"Not to put too much him, but he had an older brother that came here, Charlie, who was three years ahead of him," Fowler said. "I first saw Parks when he was around 7th grade, I told people back then that he has a good flat-bat swing that reminded me of Dustin Ackley. At that time, Ackley was about a junior in high school."
Hunt pitched in spots for Glenn last season but saw limited innings behind two senior starters.
"He is a power pitcher," Fowler said. "He is a kid that's throwing it in the upper 80s, and with him, he has a ton of untapped potential. On most teams, he would have been a No. 1 last year. This year he will carry the brunt of our innings. He will get the big games and big innings and maybe even relieve some games. He will be a workhorse."
