East Wilkes knocks off East Surry in 1-AA surprise

East Wilkes 22, East Surry 19: Micah Bryan's 6-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Aaron Bauguess lifted No.11 East Wilkes to an upset win over No. 6 East Surry last night in the first round of the NCHSAA Class 1-AA playoffs in Pilot Mountain.
Bauguess and Bryan combines to help East Wilkes take a 14-0 lead into halftime. Bauguess scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter, and Bryan tacked on a 27-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
East Surry rallied in the second half with two touchdowns from Hunter Diamont, then scoredon a 4-yard touchdown run by Markus Brown to take a 19-14 lead before Bryan's winning score.

Starmount 20, Surry Central 17: Jake Barr scored a touchdown on both offense and defense last night as No. 1 Starmount defeated No. 16 Surry Central in the first round of the NCHSAA Class 2-A playoffs.
Barr scored on a 23-yard run in the second quarter for a 7-0 lead. Central trimmed it to 7-3 on a 35-yard field goal and took a 10-7 halftime lead on a 46-yard run by Casey Felts.
Blaine Nicholson scored on a 42-yard run for Starmount in the third quarter for a 14-10 lead. Barr ran back an interception for a 75-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for a 20-10 lead. Blake Stanley of Surry Central recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it 20-17.

Elkin 52, Monroe Union Academy 0: Aaron Rabin ran for three touchdowns, and Ethan Creed added one touchdown passing and one running as Elkin rolled past visiting Monroe Union Academy last night in the first round of the NCHSAA Class 1-A playoffs.
Rabin had touchdown runs of 9, 58 and 51 yards and finished with 153 yards on 11 carries.
Creed completed six of nine passes for 154 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown pass to Damon Smith. Creed also scored on a 1-yard run.

Mount Airy 52, Goldsboro Rosewood 0: Top-seeded Mount Airy outgained visiting Goldsboro Rosewood 450 yards to 87 yards as it rolled to a first-round win last night in the NCHSAA Class 1-A playoffs.
Andy Temoney carried 22 times for 183 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Granite Bears' attack. Luke Wheeler added 118 yards of offense and two touchdowns.

China Grove Carson 14, Ledford 13: Ledford's rally from a 14-point deficit came up one-point short last night in a loss to China Grove Carson last night in the NCHSAA Class 3-A playoffs in Wallburg.
Ledford had an opportunity to send last night's game tp overtime, but a failed point-after attempt separated the Panthers from that chance.
After Carson took a 14-0 lead of two Clifford Long touchdown runs, Chris Ross set up the Panthers' first score in the second quarter, blocking a punt that was recovered by David McSwaim. The next play, Steven Fuquay connected with Jonathan Shelton for a 15-yard touchdown.
Shelton added a touchdown pass of 8 yards to Michael Vogler in the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit to 14-13, but the Panthers could do no more..
