Three of Wake Forest's highly regarded five-man recruiting class signed letters of intent yesterday, and the other two are expected to sign today.
Travis McKie, Carson Derosiers and J.T. Terrell signed their letters yesterday according to Steve Shutt, Wake Forest's assistant director of athletics for media relations. Although Wake Forest isn't allowed by NCAA rules to comment on a recruit until he has signed, sources familiar with the program expect Tony Chennault and Melvin Tabb to sign today.
Coach Roy Williams of North Carolina yesterday announced the signings of 6-7 Reggie Bullock from Kinston High and Kendall Marshall, a 6-4 guard from Bishop O'Connell High in Arlington, Va.
McKie is a 6-7 wing forward from John Marshall High School in Richmond who chose Wake Forest over Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth, Maryland and Boston College.
Derosiers is a 6-11 forward from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Mass., who chose Wake Forest over Notre Dame, Syracuse and Connecticut, among others.
Terrell is a 6-3 guard from West Charlotte High School who chose Wake Forest over Virginia, Miami and UNC Charlotte.
Chennault is a 6-3 guard from St. John Neumann in Philadelphia and Tabb is a 6-8 forward from Enloe High School in Raleigh.
The UNC-bound Marshall comes from the same Bishop O'Connell program as Marcus Ginyard, a UNC senior this season.
"Reggie is a wonderful prospect as a perimeter player," Williams said in a statement. "At six feet, seven inches, he has the ability to handle the ball and be a fantastic shooter. He is also a good defensive player. He's the kind of young man whom everyone will enjoy watching."
"Kendall is a true point guard. He's a Lenny Wilkens type player -- very clever with the ball. I love his unselfishness..."
In ACC women's basketball, Duke signed a class of five that ESPN's HoopGurlz rated No. 1 in the nation, and Coach Kellie Harper signed her first class at N.C. State, adding four players.
The Duke recruits are Haley Peters (Red Bank, N.J.), Chelsea Gray (Manteca, Calif.), Tricia Liston (River Forest, Ill.), Richa Jackson (Midwest City, Okla.), and Chloe Wells, originally from Colton, Calif., and now playing at Apex High. HoopGurlz ranks Gray No. 4 and Jackson No. 6 in the nation and also has Peters (No. 19) and Liston (No. 33) in its top 33.
The N.C. State recruits are Myisha Goodwin (Lorton, Va.), Kody Burke (Riverside, Calif.), Devin Griffin (Lubbock, Texas), and Nashika "Breezy" Williams (Durham). HoopGurlz ranks Goodwin No. 47 in the nation overall and No. 12 among guards, and also has Burke (No. 73) among its top 100.
