Casey Nogueira scored two goals and Sterling Smith scored one as No. 3 seed North Carolina defeated No. 1 seed Florida State 3-0 in the ACC women's soccer final yesterday in Cary.
Tobin Heath and Kristi Eveland were each credited with assists for the Tar Heels.
One of Nogueira's goals came on a penalty kick.
"We are excited to be the ACC champions, the No. 1 conference in the nation for women's soccer," UNC coach Anson Dorrance said. "Yet we give credit to a great Florida State team. Obviously they were a very tired, worn down team today -- very different than the team that we saw earlier in the season. But we are ecstatic for this win and look forward to the upcoming NCAA Tournament."
It was the 20th ACC Tournament championship for the Tar Heels (17-3-1).
This was the fifth time FSU has lost to UNC in the ACC title game.
In the ACC field hockey final, top-seeded Maryland defeated Virginia 3-2 in overtime yesterday in Charlottesville, Va.
Megan Frazer scored the game-winning goal for the Terps (20-0) in the 72nd minute.
Virginia (18-3) took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Charlotte van den Broek and Tara Puffenberger.
Maryland tied the score on goals by Katie O'Donnell and Nicole Muracco.
