LEWISVILLE

Coach Mark Moroz of Forsyth Country Day had few things to complain about in the Furies' 36-7 win over Arden Christ School last night in the first round of the Division II independent-school playoffs.

The Furies (8-3), playing in their first-ever home playoff game, gave up two first downs on running-into-the-punter calls and one long touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Otherwise, it was all good for fourth-seeded FCD.

Seth Constable scored two first-half touchdowns, both on 14-yard runs, while Luke Johnson passed for two touchdowns and ran for another. Christ School fumbles led to two of the scores.

"I'm thrilled," said Moroz, whose Furies will play First Assembly of Charlotte (11-0) in the second round of the playoffs. "We had a good game plan against them, and the guys executed it well. I couldn't be happier."

The fifth-seeded Greenies fumbled near the 50 to end the first drive of the game, and FCD quickly moved for a touchdown. Constable started the drive with 11-, 27- and 7-yard runs, and Johnson capped the drive with a 1-yard sneak.

Near the end of the first quarter, FCD took over at its 48 after a short punt. Constable started the drive with a 20-yard run and finished it with his first 14-yard touchdown run.

FCD quickly got the ball back on a Christ School fumble. On fourth down, Johnson passed 5 yards to tight end Nick Sink in the corner of the end zone for the touchdown with 6:01 left in the half.

The Furies began a 67-yard touchdown drive after a punt with 2:15 left in the first half. Johnson completed three passes for 43 yards on the drive, capped by Constable's second 14-yard touchdown run with 29.5 seconds left in the half. That made the score 29-0.

FCD took over at its 47 after a punt in the third quarter, and the Furies scored in eight plays. Johnson passed to Richard Stockton near the right sideline, and he ran 18 yards to the end zone. With 6:30 to play, Arden's Woody Cabbil broke the tackles of FCD backups as he ran 48 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown.

Constable led the Furies with 102 yards, while Johnson was 8 of 14 passing for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

The Furies gave up 36 yards rushing, including the 48-yard touchdown run.

Moroz said the Furies intentionally ran a conservative offense.

"We didn't want to show too much on offense," he said.
