Reynolds 2, Charlotte Providence 1: Fredy Abarca scored two second-half goals as Reynolds posted a come-from-behind victory over visiting Charlotte Providence last night in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs.
Matthew Kirby scored an unassisted goal in the first half for Providence (13-6-3). Abarca scored on an unassisted goal at the 50-minute mark to tie the game 1-1.
Abarca followed that up 11 minutes later with the winning goal, off an assist by Dek Timberlake.
Brady Buchannan had six saves for Reynolds (12-10), which will play a second-round game at unbeaten Greensboro Page on Saturday at 6 p.m. Page beat North Davidson 7-1 last night.
Charlotte Myers Park 2, Mount Tabor 1: Charlotte Myers Park took a 2-1 halftime lead and made it stand up in a win over visiting Mount Tabor yesterday in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs.
Patrick Lipps of Myers Park scored in the second minute off a penalty kick. Mount Tabor responded with an unassisted goal from Abe Fonseca. Three minutes later, Caden McMahon of Myers Park (14-2-3) scored to give the Green Mustangs the victory.
Ben Sollenberger had 10 saves for Mount Tabor (9-9-3).
Greensboro Grimsley 3, East Forsyth 0: Greensboro Grimsley shut out visiting East Forsyth yesterday in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs.
Grimsley (16-4-1) will play at home in the second round against Ragsdale. East Forsyth finishes its season with a record of 11-8-2.
Charlotte Garinger 5, Watauga 1: Charlotte Garinger advanced to the second round of the Class 4-A playoffs by defeating visiting Watauga last night.
Garinger (8-5) will play at Asheville Roberson in the second round. Watauga ends its season at 4-16-1.
Surry Central 5, Newton-Conover 1: Surry Central rolled into the second round of the Class 2-A playoffs by defeating Newton-Conover last night in Dobson.
Surry Central improved to 20-2 and will play at home in the second round against Black Mountain Owen.
Starmount 5, Brevard 0: Starmount rolled past Brevard in a first-round game of the Class 2-A playoffs last night in Boonville.
The Rams (15-4-1) will play in the second round at Valdese Draughn, which was a 2-1 winner over West Stokes last night.
Wilkes Central 6, Madison 2: Wilkes Central coasted to a first-round win in the Class 2-A playoffs last night in Moravian Falls.
The Eagles (17-3-1) will play at home in the second round against South Iredell, which beat South Stokes 8-1 last night.
