North Carolina has released Angelo Hadley, a football player from Seffner, Fla., from its scholarship offer and his signed national letter of intent after he was arrested on Wednesday for the second time in a month.
The St. Petersburg Times reported that Hadley, 18, was charged with grand theft, grand theft of a firearm and armed burglary of a dwelling with a firearm, according to the Hillsborough County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office online arrest report.
All the offenses are third-degree felonies, the Times reported.
According to the sheriff's report, Hadley was arrested at the address for his school, Armwood High School, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
He is being held at the Orient Road jail with no bond set.
Coach Sean Callahan of Armwood didn't return a message from the Winston-Salem Journal left yesterday morning on his voice mail at school about Hadley's arrest and North Carolina's decision to release Hadley from the letter of intent.
Hadley's first arrest this month came on April 5 when he was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery. He was released then after posting a $15,000 bond.
He had 50 tackles and eight interceptions as a senior last season, helping his team go 12-1 and reach the Class 4-A state semifinals. A 6-0, 190-pound defensive back, he was ranked the No. 38 senior in Florida last season by SuperPrep magazine.
Hadley's release drops the total number of players in North Carolina's incoming recruiting class to 28. Defensive backs were one of the strengths of the class in terms of quantity, and six are left.
