Hot-shooting Perry picks Peterson and Appalachian

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Buzz Peterson has the first commitment for his second stint as Appalachian State's basketball coach -- from shooting guard Nate Perry.

Perry is a 6-3, 190-pound rising senior at Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pa. He committed Wednesday night and can sign the binding national letter-of-intent in November, at the start NCAA's early signing period for basketball.

Recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons of All Star Sports in Lenoir ranks Perry among the top 125 rising seniors this summer, but he said that Perry's status could improve because of his shooting ability.

Perry's AAU team played in Gibbons' Tournament of Champions in the Research Triangle area over Memorial Day weekend, and he made 12 of 15 3-point shots in one game.

"He put on one of the most incredible shooting exhibitions that I've seen in many a day," Gibbons said. "It was amazing. He is a textbook pure shooter.

"The Southern Conference better watch out. They might have another Steph Curry coming into the league. I want to see how he does the rest of the summer, but if you were going to rank pure shooters, he'd be at the top of my list right now."
