Even after the departure of seniors Riley Skinner and John Russell, both the The Bolles School specifically and the Jacksonville area in general will be well-represented in the Wake Forest football program.
Desmond Cooper, a senior safety at The Bolles School, has committed to play football at Wake Forest. Cooper told the Florida Times-Union of Jacksonville he wanted to make sure the Deacons didn't recruit another safety.
Cooper, who is 6-1 and weighs 185 pounds, chose Wake Forest over offers from Maryland, West Virginia, Miami and Purdue.
"I wanted to make my decision because I didn't want to lose my spot," Cooper said. "I knew that Wake was only taking one safety. I wanted to get out of the state and see something new.
"I wanted to get away from the humidity."
Quarterback Skinner and defensive tackle Russell are both former Bulldogs who are All-ACC candidates in their final season of college. There are two other players from The Bolles School on the Deacons' roster, Scott Betros, a redshirt freshman linebacker and Chance Raines, a sophomore center.
Northeastern Florida has been a fertile recruiting ground for the Deacons, who have 14 players on their roster from the Jacksonville area.
