Ex-North Davidson star might miss LSU opener

■ Third baseman Tyler Hanover, a freshman from North Davidson who is batting .317, is questionable to start for LSU in the College World Series this weekend because of a sore ankle.Derek Helenihi will start at third Saturday against Virginia if Hanover can't go. Hanover is fourth on the team in RBIs with 44.

■ South Carolina pitcher Adam Westmoreland will miss the 2010 season after he had surgery on his left elbow.
Coach Ray Tanner said that Westmoreland, a freshman left-hander, had reconstructive surgery yesterday. Tanner said that Westmoreland should be able to return to the field in the fall of 2010 and pitch by the 2011 season. Westmoreland went 4-2 this season.

■ Catcher Kenny Swab of Young Harris (Ga.) College, a former East Forsyth star, was taken in the 48th round of yesterday's major-league draft by the Cincinnati Reds.
Swab hit .352 with eight homers and 59 RBIs this season.
