Prep-Basketball Roundup: Bishop McGuinness girls rip Thomasville

NCHSAA 1-A girls

Bishop McGuinness 66, Thomasville 40: Erinn Thompson and Whitney Knight scored 18 points apiece last night as Bishop McGuinness defeated Thomasville in the Class 1-A West Sectional 1 semifinals in Kernersville.

McGuinness led 15-11 after the first quarter, but it went on a 22-15 run in the second quarter to take a 39-19 halftime lead, led by eight points from Knight. Thompson scored 14 of her points in the first half and finished with 13 rebounds.

Brittany Cox added 16 points for McGuinness.

Christina Carter led Thomasville with 12 points and Sharae Alford finished with 10.

McGuinness will play in tonight's Sectional final at 6:30 against South Stokes, which defeated North Moore last night. The McGuinness boys will play Winston-Salem Prep at 8 p.m. for the Sectional final.

East Surry 75, River Mill 61: Courtney Simmons scored 31 points as East Surry defeated River Mill in last night's Class 1-A West Sectional 2 semifinals in Pilot Mountain.

River Mill took a 20-18 lead after the first quarter, but East took a 41-33 halftime lead.

Kelsey Long added 16 points for East, while Lekita Shuff and Paige Honeycutt chipped in with 10 each.

Allison Cousin led River Miller with 19 points, Amber Miller had 18 and Jada Alvarado had 11.

East (24-5) will play Mount Airy at home tonight at 6:30.

E. Surry 18 23 16 18 — 75

River Mills (30-2): Mendez 2, Wright 1, Lyles 5, Venson 5, Alvarado 11, Miller 18, Cousin 19.

East Surry (24-5): James 8, Shuff 10, Honeycutt 10, Long 16, Simmons 31.

Mount Airy 45, Alleghany 22: Ellie Case scored 10 points last night as Mount Airy defeated visiting Alleghany in last night's Class 1-A West Sectional 2 semifinals.

Mount Airy, the No. 3 seed from the Northwest 1-A, got 10 rebounds from Andrea Leonard. Alleghany was the No. 5 seed from the Northwest 1-A.

Mount Airy will travel to Pilot Mountain tonight to face another Northwest 1-A foe, East Surry, in tonight's Sectional final at 6:30.

Kennedy Gamble led with 11 points.

South Stokes 59, North Moore 54: Jodie Lemons scored 14 points, including seven in the second quarter, as South Stokes edged North Moore in the Class 1-A West Sectional 1 semifinals in Robbins.

North took a 33-30 lead at halftime, but South went to a man-to-man defense in the second half, and outscored North 29-21.

Stephanie Mitchell added 11 points for South, and Keyonna Joyner finished with 10.

Lashai Thompson led North with 17 points and Shakorya Brower had 11.

South Stokes will play at Bishop McGuinness in tonight's final at 6:30

NCHSAA Class 2-A girls

East Davidson 48, North Surry 34: Alyssa Cutshaw scored 12 points to lead East Davidson past North Surry in the Class 2-A West Sectional 2 semifinals last night in Thomasville.

Anna Freeman added eight points, 11 rebounds, five assists and six blocks.

North Surry took a 16-12 lead after the first quarter. But East outscored North 19-8 in the second quarter, including four 3-pointers, to give it a 31-24 halftime lead.

North only scored 10 points in the second half.

East will play at Morganton Draughn, which defeated West Stanly last night, in tonight's final.

Salisbury 72, Ashe County 37: Shi-Heria Shipp scored 16 points as Salisbury cruised to a win over Ashe County in the Class 2-A West Sectional 1 semifinals last night in West Jefferson.

Salisbury jumped to a 26-8 lead after the first quarter and took a 45-14 halftime lead.

Shanequa Phifer added 14 points for Salisbury, and Ashia Holmes had 10.

Kim McNeil led Ashe County with nine points.

Salisbury will play Ledford in tonight's final.

Ledford 47, North Stanly 40: Carmen Pericozzi scored 15 points to lead Ledford past North Stanly in the Class 2-A West Sectional 1 semifinals in New London last night.

Whitley Saintsing added seven points and 20 rebounds for Ledford, and Taylor Ballard had 11 points.

Alexis Atkins led North with 22 points.

Ledford will play at Salisbury in tonight's final.

NCISAA 3-A

FCD girls 55, Charlotte Country Day 41: Brey Dorsett scored 19 points, including 11 for 14 from the free-throw line in the second half, as visiting Forsyth Country Day defeated Charlotte Country Day in last night's quarterfinals.

FCD took an 18-5 lead after the first quarter, including 10 points from Hannah Allgood. Allgood finished with 16 points. Taylor Duggins chipped in with 11.

Cassey Tolliver led Charlotte Country Day with 18 points and Janice Robert had 13.

FCD will play Charlotte Providence Day, which defeated Durham Academy last night, in today's semifinals at 4 p.m.

NCISAA 2-A

Concord First Assembly boys 69, HP Westchester 60: Pedro O'Neal scored 19 points last night as Concord First Assembly defeated High Point Westchester in the quarterfinals at Charlotte Providence Day.

Westchester led 32-29 at halftime, but First Assembly outscored Westchester 16-4 in the third quarter. Kyle Grisby scored six of his 19 points in the third quarter.

Jacob Allen added 12 points for First Assembly.

Deuce Bello led Westchester with 32 points eight rebounds and eight steals.
