Wake Forest scored nine runs in the first four innings and freshman Daniel Marrs pitched five scoreless innings in his first college start as the Deacons downed Appalachian State 15-3 last night at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
Wake Forest improved to 5-0, its best record after five games since the 1998 season.
Marrs was effective in his first start.
He allowed just two hits and no runs in five innings, while striking out six and walking five.
Ryan Semeniuk led the Wake Forest offense with three hits and three runs, while Dustin Hood, Shane Kroker and Weldon Woodall each added two hits.
Wake Forest will be back in action on Friday at 6 p.m., when it is home to Miami (Ohio) in the Wake Forest Baseball Tournament.
Defensive lapses also helped the Deacons, as the Mountaineers committed all four of their errors in the first four innings.
Ryan Arrowood took the loss in his first career start, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Redshirt freshman David Port was a bright spot for the Appalachian State pitching staff, striking out the side in the sixth.
The Mountaineers managed five hits against six Deacons pitchers, highlighted by Chris Alessandria's solo homer to left in the seventh.
Appalachian State (3-1) returns to action today at Gardner-Webb. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
