NCHSAA 4-A girls

Mount Tabor 73, Watauga 51: Shay Jones scored 20 points, had eight rebounds and nine assists to lead Mount Tabor past visiting Watauga last night in the opening round of the 4-A West Sectional 1 playoffs.

Gabby Oglesby added 13 points, and Jennifer Penley had 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks for Mount Tabor (24-1).

Mount Tabor will face Mallard Creek on Thursday night.

Christina Rees led Watauga (11-15) with 11 points.

Concord Robinson 52, Reynolds 50: Kelsee Cheek scored 20 points and Tabby Koerner added 16 as visiting Concord Robinson edged Reynolds in the first round of the 4-A West Sectional 1 last night.

Reynolds trailed by 20 points early in the second quarter and chipped away at the lead. The Demons had a chance to tie the game with one second left, but missed two free throws.

Yaz Alston scored 16 points and Tori Hardy added 15 for Reynolds, which finished its season 16-10.

North Davidson 59, Person County 53: Ashlei Clodfelter scored 11 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter and North Davidson defeated Person County in the first round of the 4-A West Sectional 2 playoffs last night.

North Davidson did not make a field goal in the fourth quarter but was 11 of 14 from the foul line.

North Davidson will play Huntersville Hopewell in the second round.

Ameeque Smith led Person County with 20 points.

Tierra Burks added 13 points for Hopewell (16-8), which will face North Davidson on Thursday night.

Brittany Gwyn led Central (18-9) with 15 points.

Southeast Guilford 49, Glenn 38: Paris Alston led all scorers with 15 points as Southeast Guilford defeated Glenn in the 3-A West Sectional 2 playoffs last night in Greensboro.

Amy Beasley hit a three-pointer to give Southeast a 34-32 lead with 3:34 remaining.

Kaela Bellefeuil led Glenn with 11 points.

Southeast Guilford will face Statesville in the second round.

NCHSAA 2-A girls

Ashe County 67, West Davidson 28: Kim McNeil scored 17 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead Ashe County to a first-round win in a 2-A West Sectional 1 game last night in West Jefferson.

Ashe raced out to a 44-12 lead by halftime and was never threatened.

Kristin Owens scored 14 points to lead West Davidson, which finished its season 10-14.

Ashe will be at home against Salisbury on Thursday night in the second round.

East Davidson 78, West Lincoln 49: Anna Freeman scored 22 points to lead undefeated East Davidson past West Lincoln in the first round of the 2-A West Sectional 2 in Thomasville last night.

Candace Fox added 14 points and Elizabeth Merritt finished with 11 and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Beth Pittman poured in a game-high 23 points for West Lincoln and Kayda Caldwell chipped in with 14.

Freeman also grabbed eight rebounds, blocked six shots, had five assists, and three steals. Alyssa Cutshaw handed out seven assists to go with her seven points.

East will play North Surry at home on Thursday night in the second round.

North Surry advances to play defending 2-A state champion East Davidson on Thursday night in Thomasville.

Alleghany (14-12) will move on to play either Mount Airy or South Stanly on Thursday night.

Lindsay Creech led Raleigh Charter (10-17) with 12 points.

Christine Cole added 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for Thomasville (15-4).

Thomasville will now face Bishop McGuinness on Thursday night.

Jessie Elmore led East Wilkes (19-7) with 11 points.

East Surry 61, Union Academy 21: Courtney Simmons led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points and also had five steals as East Surry beat Union Academy in the first round of the 1-A West Sectional 2 last night in Pilot Mountain.

East Surry rode its pressure defense to a 37-7 halftime lead and wasn't threatened for the rest of the game.

Kelsey Long added nine points, five steals and four assists for East Surry, which will play the winner of the River Mill-Chatham Central game in the second round on Thursday night.

Forsyth Country Day girls 62, Charlotte Christian 49: Hannah Allgood led three players in double figures with 20 points as the Forsyth Country Day coasted to a first-round win in the NCISAA 3-A playoffs last night in Lewisville.

Taylor Duggins added 13 points and Brey Dorsett chipped in 11 for FCD, which will play at Charlotte Country Day on Thursday night in the second round.

Colby Lewis chipped in 14 points and Alex Schmidt finished with 10 for the Furies. Georges MaNgoue led FCD with 12 rebounds to go with eight points.

Cameron Walton led the Chargers with 16 points, Jon Lohr had 14, and Christian Council added 10.

The Furies will play Greensboro Day in the quarterfinals on Thursday night at Charlotte Day.

HP Westchester boys 72, Cape Fear Academy 49: Wes Hawkins scored 23 points as the High Point Westchester boys defeated visiting Cape Fear Academy last night in the first round.

Westchester took a 32-24 lead at halftime, but it outscored Cape Fear Academy 28-9 in the third quarter to pull away.

Deuce Bello added 19 points for Westchester, and Georg Wolff finished with 13 points, four assists and five steals.

Will Hyman and Alex Smith led Cape Fear Academy with 17 points each.

Westchester will play Concord First Assembly in Thursday's quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. at Charlotte Providence Day.

Spencer Brown added 20 points, Nathan Miller had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Wesley Richardson finished with 12 points for FHE, which will play against the Orange County Home Educators on Friday night in the semifinals in Raleigh.
