North Forsyth 55, North Mecklenburg 54: Jairus Simms made a free throw with 5 seconds left to lift North Forsyth over visiting North Mecklenburg last night in the first round of the West Sectional 1.
Simms, who finished with 11 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, gave North Forsyth a 54-52 lead by hitting a jump shot with 57 seconds left. North Meck tied the game at 54 when Andre Marhold hit two free throws with 35 seconds remaining. Simms provided the winning point 30 seconds later by hitting the second of two free throws.
Kameko Walls led North Forsyth with 16 points, and Gerry Hairston added 14.

Lashawn Brown and Keith Manly scored 13 points apiece for the Whirlies, Aaron Wise had 11, and Carter Gourley finished with 10.

Reagan 72, NW Cabarrus 48: William Peay scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the first half to lead Reagan past visiting Northwest Cabarrus in the first round of the West Sectional 2 last night.
Ryan Brubaker added 10 points for the Raiders, who jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and coasted in the second half.
Tyler Honeycutt led Northwest Cabarrus with 11 points.
Reagan will play at Concord in the second round on Wednesday.

Trinity 62, Parkland 58 (OT): Josh Pittman scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as Trinity edged visiting Parkland last night in the first round of the West Sectional 2.
Pittman made a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 54. Parkland held for the last shot on the ensuing possession, but Dontre Barrett's shot rimmed out to send the game into overtime.
Pittman scored six of Trinity's points in the extra period to held pull out the win.
Barrett scored 15 points, and Antwon McClinton and J.T. Truesdale added 12 points apiece for Parkland, which finished its season 12-12.

Wilkes Central 67, West Stanly 62: Matt Abernethy scored 15 of his 20 points in the decisive fourth quarter and Wilkes Central erased a 10-point deficit to beat West Stanly in the first round of the West Sectional 2 in Moravian Falls.
Roddie Bridges added 17 points and Trae Alexander had 16 for the Eagles, who made 15 of 18 free throws in the final eight minutes.
Stephen Moses led West Stanly with 14 points, Chauncey Bruton tacked on 12, and Elliott Drake finished with 11.
Wilkes Central will play the South Iredell-Salisbury winner in the second round.

Tatum Lemly added 16 points and Daniel Waln chipped in 11 for the Huskies, who almost blew a 10-point lead in the final quarter.
Kyle Branson led the Golden Eagles with 14 points, Christian Clark had 11, and Bryson Faulkner contributed 10.
Ashe County will play Providence Grove at home on Wednesday in the second round.

Thomasville 68, East Surry 61 (OT): D.J. McLendon scored 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Thomasville past visiting East Surry in overtime of a first-round West Sectional 1 game last night.
Brandon Lucas added 12 points and Dee Dow chipped in with 10 for the Bulldogs.
Thomasville was trailing by five with one minute to go, but went on a 6-1 run down the stretch to force overtime. In overtime, the Bulldogs jumped out to a four-point lead. East Surry trimmed its deficit to two points several times, only to have Thomasville extend the lead back out.
Hunter Damont led East Surry with 17 points and Spence Tuttle added 14. The Cardinals finish the season 13-14.
Thomasville will play at Bishop McGuinness in the second round on Wednesday night at 7:00.

Mount Airy closed the first half with a 12-0 run to take a 14-point lead at halftime, and then pulled away from there.
Wade Moody scored 19 points to lead Mount Airy, and Dylan Bobbitt added 11.
Mount Airy will travel to Siler City on Wednesday night to play against Jordan-Matthews in the second round.

Toomey also handed out 10 assists and had six steals. Diachenko scored 13 of his points in the first quarter for the Villains.
Marc Johnson led East Montgomery with 17 points, Troy Wall had 12, and Ray Smith tacked on 11.
Bishop McGuinness will now play at home against Thomasville in the second round on Wednesday.

Winston-Salem Prep 77, South Stanly 56: Corey Gantt scored 15 of his 24 points in the second quarter to lead Winston-Salem Prep past South Stanly in the first round of the West Sectional 1 in Norwood.
Prep opened up a working margin in the second quarter by outscoring South 31-19 and led 44-28 at halftime.
South Stanly had no answer in the second half and Prep cruised to the win. D-Marius Allen scored 20 points to lead the Rebels.
Prep had a balanced scoring attack with Jamal McNeil scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Mike Spease chipped in with 10 points and 10 assists. Prep improves to 17-11 and will travel to play the winner of West Montgomery-Science and Math School Wednesday night at 7.
This win was the 100th for Andre Gould, the head coach of Winston-Salem Prep.

Bishop McGuinness 76, East Montgomery 42: Bishop McGuinness took control from the start and rolled past East Montgomery last night in a West Sectional 1 game in Kernersville.
Whitney Knight led McGuinness with 13 points, Gina Simmons and Brittany Cox both had 11, and Erinn Thompson had 10.
McGuinness led 27-8 after the first quarter and was never threatened.
Briana Turner led East with 14 points.
The Villains advanced to Thursday's second round. They will take on the winner of tonight's game between East Wilkes and Thomasville.
