Prep-Basketball Roundup: Hardy helps Reynolds girls win

Central Piedmont 4-A

Reynolds girls 56, North Forsyth 37: Tori Hardy had 17 points and 12 rebounds to help Reynolds beat North Forsyth at Bryson Gym in a first-round game.

Erin Naylor added 10 points for the Demons and Ashton Fleming grabbed nine rebounds to go with her six points.

Kayla Adams scored nine points to lead North, which finished 4-18.

Reynolds will play No. 2-seeded North Davidson on Wednesday.

Davie County girls 48, West Forsyth 43: Janna Dixon led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points as Davie County edged West Forsyth in a first round game last night at Reynolds.

Tori Cook led all scorers with 21 points for West.

Davie County will face top-seeded Mount Tabor on Wednesday night in the semifinals at Reynolds.

Carver boys 64, Glenn 49: Montray Durrant led four players in double figures with 16 points as Carver rolled to a first round win against visiting Glenn last night.

Javon Summers added 13 points, Richard Daniels had 11 and Telvin Davis chipped in 10 for Carver, which will play top-seeded High Point Andrews Wednesday night in the semifinals at Carver.

Lamaurice Williams scored 10 points to lead Glenn, which finished 4-20.

HP Andrews girls 42, Carver 38: Tonisha Baker led three players in double figures with 16 points as High Point Andrews nipped Carver in a first-round game last night.

Bria Byrd and Sequoia Jackson added 10 points apiece for Andrews, which will play Parkland Wednesday night in the semifinals at Carver.

Andrea Herring scored 10 points to lead Carver.

Atkins boys 71, Southern Guilford 65 (OT): Joel Oglesby had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Austin Higgins added 20 points and 14 rebounds as Atkins edged visiting Southern Guilford in overtime for a first-round win last night.

Atkins led by 10 points heading into the fourth quarter, but Southern Guilford stormed back by making five 3-pointers, including a game-tying basket by Desmond Seegars (24 points) with five seconds left that sent the game to overtime.

The Camels pulled away in overtime by making 7 of 8 free throws.

Atkins will play at top-seeded Reidsville tonight in the semifinals.

McMichael boys 67, West Stokes 63 (OT): Adam Redden scored 16 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help McMichael outlast West Stokes in a first-round game played in Mayodan.

Jeffery Parker added 16 points for the Fighting Phoenix and Dylan Caple finished with 14.

Brett Boyles led West with 22 points, Seth Holderfield added 17 and Justin Young had 10.

McMichael will play at Eastern Guilford tonight at 7 p.m.

Bishop McGuinness girls 70, East Wilkes 37: Brittany Cox scored 19 points and Megan Buckland added 14 as Bishop McGuinness rolled to a semifinal win last night at Mount Airy.

Buckland scored all 14 of her points in the first half as the Villains raced to a 49-16 lead at halftime.

Jessie Elmore scored seven points to lead East Wilkes.

McGuinness will play the winner of the Mount Airy-East Surry game in Thursday night's championship at Mount Airy.

Bishop McGuinness boys 70, East Surry 58: Aaron Toomey had 28 points, nine assists, four steals, and six rebounds as top-seeded Bishop McGuinness beat East Surry in a semifinal last night in Mount Airy.

Ross Diachenko added 16 points, and he and Toomey combined to score 27 in the second half. Diachenko was 10 for 10 from the foul line and Toomey scored 15 in the second half. McGuinness will play the winner of tonight's Mount Airy-North Stokes semifinal in the championship game on Thursday night at Mount Airy.

Andrew Hunter scored 17 to lead East.

Starmount boys 79, North Surry 71 (OT): Shane Bryant scored 10 of his game-high 31 points in overtime to lift Starmount over North Surry in a first-round game in Toast last night.

Tanner Hiatt sank a 3-pointer for the Greyhounds with 25 seconds left in regulation to tie the score 63-63. The Rams missed two shots before the buzzer and the game went to overtime.

North Surry scored the first basket of the extra session but Bryant answered with consecutive 3-pointers for a four-point lead which Starmount would not give up. Tyler Jackson added 16 points for the Rams and Jake Barr chipped in 15.

Blaize Brintle led the Greyhounds with 19 points, Hiatt finished with 18 and Tanner Easter tacked on 12.

Marvin Spicer led Surry Central with 12 points, and Austin McLamb and Jake Levesque added 10 each.
