Top 25 women

No. 1 Connecticut 80, No. 2 Stanford 68: Maya Moore scored 23 points and Tina Charles added 20 to help UConn win its 49th straight game, an easy victory over visiting Stanford yesterday in front of a sellout crowd of 16,294.
The Huskies (10-0) won their first nine games this season by at least 25 points and an average of 46. UConn hadn't faced a team the caliber of the Cardinal, which the Huskies beat last season in the national semifinals on the way to a perfect 39-0 record and sixth NCAA title.
The Cardinal (9-1) proved to be no match as UConn extended the third-longest winning streak in women's basketball history. UConn won 70 straight from 2001-03 and Louisiana Tech had a 54-game streak from 1980-82.
Stanford, which beat then-No. 7 Duke and third-ranked Tennessee last week, was the last team to beat UConn, topping the Huskies in the 2008 Final Four.

No. 15 Xavier 87, Austin Peay 41: Ta'Shia Phillips had her seventh double double of the season yesterday, leading Xavier to a victory over visiting Austin Peay.
Phillips, a 6-6 center, had 20 points and 10 rebounds for her 41st career double double, helping Xavier (9-2) take control from the outset. The Musketeers opened with an 18-3 run and led 44-15 at halftime.
Amber Harris added 17 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Katie Rutan went 5 of 12 from behind the 3-point arc and finished with 17 points.

State/area women

Bowling Green 89, Appalachian State 68: Bowling Green's 11-0 run at the end of the first half effectively sealed a win over visiting Appalachian State last night.

Appalachian State fell to 4-6 and now has a two-game losing streak. Bowling Green remains undefeated on its home floor and is now 9-4.
The Mountaineers' Anna Freeman finished with a school-record eight blocks, helping the team tie the single-game team block record of 11 set against ETSU this season.
Bowling Green went 14 of 28 from behind the arc, and set an ASU school record in opponent 3-pointers made.

Top 25 men

No. 3 Kentucky 86, Long Beach State 73: John Wall scored 19 points, and Kentucky pulled away in the second half for a home win yesterday over weary Long Beach State.
DeMarcus Cousins shook off early foul trouble to finish with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Wildcats improved to 13-0.

No. 6 West Virginia 76, No. 15 Mississippi 66: Wellington Smith scored 17 of his career-high 19 points in the second half and West Virginia used a significant rebounding edge and a big helping of second-half 3-pointers to beat visiting Mississippi last night.
Devin Ebanks added 14 points and 13 rebounds and Kevin Jones had 12 points for West Virginia (9-0), which has its best record since the 2004-05 team was 10-0 under a much softer schedule.

No. 8 Villanova 97, Delaware 63: Scottie Reynolds scored 22 points, Reggie Redding had 16 and Villanova cruised in its final nonconference game, beating visiting Delaware last night.
The Wildcats (11-1) used a string of big baskets from Reynolds, who keyed their Final Four run last season, to turn a tighter-than-expected game into an easy win in their final tuneup for Big East opponents.
Taylor King had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Villanova.

No. 14 Georgetown 86, Harvard 70: Chris Wright scored a career-high 34 points, Greg Monroe added 16 points and 16 rebounds, and Georgetown used a half-ending 11-0 run to pull away from Harvard yesterday in Washington, D.C.
Wright is the first Georgetown player to score at least 30 in a game since Jeff Green did it in the 2007 Big East Tournament.

No. 16 Tennessee 99, N.C. A&T 78: Tyler Smith and Kenny Hall both had 16 points and Tennessee scored the first 22 points of the game in a victory over North Carolina A&T last night.
Hall's points were among 60 scored by Tennessee's reserves.
At first the Vols (9-2) looked as if they hadn't overcome the shooting woes that plagued them in a lopsided loss to Southern California on Saturday, missing six of their first seven shots from the field.

State/area men

Old Dominion 81, UNC Charlotte 48: Gerald Lee scored 16 points to lead four Old Dominion players in double figures as the Monarchs routed visiting UNC Charlotte last night.
Lee was 8 for 10 from the floor, while Trian Iliadis added 13 points, Kent Bazemore had 11 and Frank Hassell 10.
Old Dominion (8-4), which ranks second nationally in scoring defense, took a 30-10 lead on the way to a 40-13 halftime margin.
UNC Charlotte (9-2) improved to 48.3 percent (14 for 29) in the second half, but could get no closer than 25 points and trailed by as many as 37.
Shamari Spears, Charlotte's leading scorer at 17.9 points per game, had 12 points while DiJuan Harris, who had been averaging 10.6 points per game, scored one point.

Virginia 80, Hampton 54: Sylven Landesberg scored 14 points, grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Virginia over visiting Hampton last night.
Virginia (6-4) made a season-high 11 3-pointers and outrebounded Hampton 41-26.
Sammy Zeglinski added 13 points as the Cavaliers won their second straight.
The Pirates (2-10) were led by Kwame Morgans 18 points.

Boston College 79, Massachusetts 67: Joe Trapani finished with 18 points after a rough start and Corey Raji added 18 to lead Boston College to a win over Massachusetts in the Commonwealth Classic in Boston last night.
Rakim Sanders added 15 points and eight assists for BC, which overcame 32-percent shooting in the first half with 53 points after halftime. Trapani, who missed seven of his initial eight shots and scored just two points in the opening half, was 5 for 9 from the floor in the second half.
