Notes
■ Hurricanes: Carolina placed forwards Erik Cole and Chad LaRose on injured reserve Friday and called up two players from the minor leagues.
The Hurricanes said Cole is expected to miss up to three weeks because of an upper- body injury, and LaRose could be out up to four weeks with a lower-body injury.
■ Ducks: Commissioner Gary Bettman of the NHL says it's "regrettable" that the league suspended Henry Samueli as owner of the Anaheim Ducks after he pleaded guilty last year to lying to investigators in a stock option backdating probe.
A federal judge in Santa Ana, Calif., vacated Samueli's guilty plea earlier this week after the judge found no evidence of wrongdoing.
Bettman said in a statement Friday that it was unfortunate that Samueli had to endure the suspension as owner of the Ducks. The suspension was lifted Nov. 12, before Samueli's plea was vacated.
The co-founder of the Irvine, Calif.-based chipmaker Broadcom Corp. was suspended indefinitely from any involvement with the Ducks and the NHL in June 2008.
■ Blue Jackets: Columbus has activated left wing Fredrik Modin off the injured list and assigned center Derek MacKenzie to the club's AHL affiliate in Syracuse.
General Manager Scott Howson announced the moves yesterdar. Modin could see action in the Blue Jackets' home game on lastnight against Anaheim.
Modin, 35, injured his knee during a preseason game at Minnesota on Sept. 18 and has yet to play this season.
