Appalachian State won at Wofford for the fourth straight time, but had to hold on in the closing seconds last night for a 77-76 victory at Benjamin Johnson Arena.

Wofford trailed 77-74 with 12 seconds left, and had a chance to tie.

But Corey Godzinski had a foot on the 3-point line on a field-goal attempt with two seconds left, and the Terriers came up a point short.

Ryan Abraham of the Mountaineers was sent to the free-throw line with 1.4 seconds left. He missed both shots. Jamar Diggs of the Terriers grabbed the rebound after the second miss but couldn't get a desperation heave off in time.

Donald Sims, playing near his hometown of Gaffney, S.C., led the Mountaineers with 25 points. Sims hit 9 of 10 free throws -- extending his season total to 39 of 41 (95 percent).

Ike Butts totaled 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Mountaineers (5-4, 1-1). Marcus Wright added 11 points.

Noah Dahlman, the SoCon's leading scorer, totaled 25 points for the Terriers (4-6, 0-2). Diggs added 16 points. Junior Salters, a senior guard for the Terriers, topped the 1,000-point mark for his career.

The Mountaineers overcame 20 turnovers by shooting 64 percent from the field and outrebounding the Terriers 34-23. The Terriers committed four turnovers.

ASU led by as many as 13 points in the first half, but the Terriers charged back and took a 51-49 lead on a dunk by Corey Godzinski midway through the second half.

The Mountaineers, however, took control again with a 14-4 run. Butts gave the Mountaineers a 63-55 lead with 4:55 left.

Wofford chipped away from there, and got as close as 75-74 on a 3-pointer by Cameron Rundles with 11 seconds left. But the Mountaineers held on with six straight free throws by Sims and Kellen Brand.

Marcus Wright's 3-pointer with 2:36 left in the first half boosted ASU's lead to 37-24 but the Mountaineers didn't score again in the half.

Wofford ran off 13 straight points and tied the score early in the second half on a 3-pointer by Diggs.

The Mountaineers hit 6 of 12 3-point attempts in the first half, getting three from Jeremi Booth. The Terriers, who got 13 points from Dahlman in the first half, made eight of their first 24 from the field.

ASU will break for exams before playing its next game, Dec. 17 against Milligan in Boone.
