LYNCHBURG, Va.

The Winston-Salem Dash pushed across two runs in the top of the 13th inning and held on to beat the Lynchburg Hillcats 3-1 last night at City Stadium.

Greg Paiml opened the inning by reaching second on an error by pitcher Chris Cullen and Tyler Kuhn followed with a walk.

Brent Morel popped out to third for the first out of the inning but Seth Loman's single to right scored Paiml to give the Dash a 2-1 lead. Kuhn went to third on the play. Kent Gerst then singled home Kuhn.

Tyson Corley came on to pitch the bottom of the inning for the Dash and promptly gave up a leadoff double to Eric Fryer. But Corley retired the next three batters to clinch the win for the Dash.

The Dash scored its only other run in the fourth when Loman singled home Kuhn.

The Hillcats tied the score in the ninth. Jose De Los Santos reached on a one-out bunt single and moved to second on a balk by Santo Luis. With two outs, Jordy Mercer hit a ground ball that was gloved by a diving Joe Persichina at third base. Instead of holding the ball, Persichina fired a two-hopper to first base that was bobbled by Loman. Mercer reached safely and De Los Santos raced all the way home from second to tie the score at one. It was the eighth blown save of the season for Luis and his third against Lynchburg.

Lynchburg's rally cost Dash starter Jacob Rasner a victory. Rasner, who entered the game having lost five of his previous six starts, went eight shutout innings, giving up three hits. He struck out seven and walked none.

The Dash finished with 12 base hits and the Hillcats eight. Loman, Gerst, Sergio Morales and Pailm all finished with two base hits for the Dash.

The two teams, which have split the first two games of a four-game series will play a doubleheader today, with the first game scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.

The Dash is scheduled to start Dylan Axelrod (1-1, 0.79 ERA) in the first game and Levi Maxwell (4-13, 4.62) in the second game.

The Hillcats will counter with Rudy Owens (1-1, 2.51) in the first game and Matt McSwain (9-8, 3.69) in the second game.
