■ Jackie Manuel, a former North Carolina guard, Trent Strickland, a former Wake Forest forward, and Wingate alum Junior Harrington were among the players on hand Friday at the Charlotte Bobcats' tryouts for their summer-league team.
Manuel and Strickland spent last season in the NBA Development League. Harrington played for a team in Russia.
Chuck Davis, a former Alabama forward, and ex-Kentucky guard Gerald Fitch were also at the minicamp, a first for the Bobcats.

"I think it was our mistake losing that Game 4," Lakers forward Vladimir Radmanovic said. "They didn't do anything special in that game. They just kept defending and we couldn't find anything on offense."
The Lakers led 35-14 after one quarter, opened as much as a 24-point bulge, and were still ahead by 20 midway through the third quarter before the Celtics stormed back for a 97-91 win that gave them a 3-1 lead in the series. It was the biggest comeback in the NBA Finals since the Elias Sports Bureau became the league's official statistician in 1971, surpassing a 20-point rally by Houston against Orlando in 1995.
■ Paul Pierce of the Celticswas asked yesterday if there were any similarities between himself and another All-Star forward, Denver's Carmelo Anthony.
"I've never gotten a DUI," Pierce said to huge laughter at the Lakers' practice facility.
Anthony was arrested on a DUI charge on April 14 in Denver.
