Cedrick Coleman, an infielder and pitcher who graduated from Carver last week, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at N.C. Central.
Coach Melvin Palmer of Carver said that Coleman, a two-time team MVP for the Yellowjackets, will enroll in the fall at NCCU.
Coleman was a two-time all-conference selection (2006-07) in the Piedmont Triad 3-A. He hit .410 in his three-year varsity career, striking out just 22 times, and had a slugging percentage of .640. Coleman, a kicker, was also an all-conference selection in football for Carver.
Coleman will join the N.C. Central program in time for its inaugural season at the original Durham Athletic Park. The DAP, made famous by its prominent role in the movie Bull Durham, is undergoing a $5 million renovation, which is scheduled to be completed by November.
N.C. Central revived its baseball program in 2007 and moved to Division I this year.
