Yadkin County officials seek input on park

The public is invited to a workshop to give input into plans for a new park Yadkin County hopes to create at the 5-D reservoir.

The workshop begins at 6 p.m. Monday in the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners' meeting room at 217 East Willow St.

The county is planning to apply for a $500,000 grant from the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. Yadkin County plans to exceed a required dollar-for-dollar match and spend $677,000 in county funds.

The $1.17 million proposal includes construction of a playground, walking trails, fishing piers, canoe launch/boat ramp, parking lot and a large picnic shelter with restrooms. The proposal is the first of a number of planned phases for development at the new lake, which was dedicated in 2010. It was built for flood control and future water supply on Deep Creek.

The new park would offer the first public access at the lake.

County staff and officials hosted citizen workshops this past fall in developing the plan, and are hosting this final session before sending in the application by the end of the month.
