The board of trustees at Wake Forest University approved the construction of two residence halls on the north side of campus at its meeting last week.
Construction will begin in late this month.
The residence halls, with a combined 150,000 square feet, will house 480 upperclassmen. Under a policy that began with this year's freshman class, students are required to live on campus for three years, prompting the extra need.

Motsinger's car totaled; she says she's not seriously hurt
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Board member and congressional candidate Elisabeth Motsinger was in a car accident Tuesday night. Motsinger said her car was totaled, but she was not seriously injured.
A police report on the accident had not been filed as of Wednesday afternoon, and may not be ready for several days, a Winston-Salem police clerk said. Motsinger did not have a copy of the police report Wednesday, nor did she know the other driver's name, she said.

Shuler's former chief of staff running for 11th District seat
The former chief of staff to departing U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler is running for his boss' western North Carolina seat. in Congress.
Democrat Hayden Rogers announced Wednesday that he would seek the 11th District seat that Shuler has held since 2007. Shuler announced last week he wouldn't run for another term.

Social service workers in Swain indicted in records case
Two social service workers in Swain County have been accused of falsifying records and indicted on obstruction of justice charges in the investigation of the death of a 1-year-old girl.
Candice Lassiter and Craig Smith were indicted Tuesday. Lassiter also faces forgery charges.
Smith was a social worker for the Swain Department of Social Services and Lassiter was his supervisor. Police said after Aubrey Littlejohn's death about a year ago, Lassiter ordered Smith to falsify records to make it appear as though the department had done a thorough investigation into allegations that Aubrey was being abused by her great-aunt, LadyBird Powell, who was the girl's caretaker.

Democrats skeptical about assembly vote announcement
The announcement Wednesday by Republican legislative leaders that they won't hold votes on bills when lawmakers reconvene next week was greeted skeptically by Democrats following an after-midnight session and veto override last month.
Democrats seem to have little faith that nothing will happen.
"I don't trust anything (House Speaker Thom Tillis, R-Mecklenburg) says about plans for a legislative session," said House Minority Whip Deborah Ross, D-Wake.
